CBS basically RUINED that classic show that PBS created in 1993. But this isn't new because CBS also ruined Family Matters and Step by Step. Anyway, in the old ghostwriter they were always recruiting new members. The CBS version only had 3. The PBS version they solved every case in at least 3 or 4 episodes like a movie or mini-series. Which made the show more interesting and made you wanna come back for more. The CBS version solved EVERYTHING in only one episode making the show predictable and boring. But anyway, if you wanna see the GOOD version of "ghostwriter" watch the re-runs of the PBS version on Noggin. And if you have incredibally BAD taste in TV, watch the CBS version also on Noggin.
My guess is, is that the reason it didn't last very long the mystery was solved in one episode. It had the potential and the same spark that the first did but its time slot and the cases being solved in one episode compared to a case going 4 episodes or segments then being solved. However the first ghostwriter was on P.B.S. and was shown with a good line up everyday after school so kids would tune but on a saturday morning a kid doesn't want to get up at 7:30 to watch ghostwrite at 8:00 and probably end up missing it. The way i figure it is that if they had a case go in a number of segments then kids would want to get up and tune in every saturday. CBS knew what they were doing and kids probably did like they most likely enjoyed but those 2 things they lack probably is why it didn't last.
This was an attempt to relive the original PBS "Ghostwriter" series. None of the original cast was used, and the mysteries became one episode instead of a serial. I can see why this failed. The original Ghostwriter will always be remembered by children growing up in the 90s, this series is already forgotten.
the other actors are pretty good too, and all the episodes i have seen so far are interesting, i do not know why this series did not continued for more seasons but i really like to watch all the episodes of the new ghostwriter.
The original Ghostwriter had PLOT. There was sequence where one of Alex's friends was using drugs and actually stealing things to sell to pawn shops. He ended up getting beaten up by his dealers for lack of payment and left in an alley. Thankfully, they found him in time, but they could have helped him sooner. Find lessons like that on a kid's show today.
In another, Jamal is slipping a letter of apology to a shop owner when suddenly the place catches on fire. He doesn't tell the police that it's him in the security camera, but admits it when they find out.
From bullies mugging kids for arcade money, to a waste manager dumping toxic waste, to hacking, this show had merit, and even let you try to figure out the guilty party before the team did.
The new team... SUCKED. The whole Ghostwriter only can use letters thing was worked around since all members had PDA's. Therefore, Ghostwriter pretty much solved everything.
There weren't many moral lessons or risky things to show children. The gang had no personality outside the team, unlike in the original, where personality is well developed and plays a major role.
They just run around, solve something, and gloat. All in all, an insult to the original.
