I realized the human potential movement has gotten completely out of hand when I heard Goofy telling Max they needed to spend more "quality time" together.

Ultimately, the weight of the film falls on Goofy's powerful shoulders. He does his best, but like Norma Desmond, he can only do so much.

Harmless enough day in the sun for Goofy; pity there's an overwhelming feeling throughout that he deserves better.

Directed by Kevin Lima and produced by Dan Rounds, it moves briskly, and, if it doesn’t make a star out of Goofy, it doesn’t trash him either. It lets Goofy be Goofy.

For parents, the burning issue ignited by A Goofy Movie is ”Will it buy us 78 minutes of peace and quiet?” Provided the kids are old enough to follow a wandering story line that centers on single father Goofy’s adolescent son Max and his quest for peer acceptance as well as he love of a pert humanoid bitch (in the doggy sense), the answer is yes.

Overall, A Goofy Movie is an incoherent mess that jumps from one unlikely, brainless, crash-bang situation to another, with each element of a protracted father-son bonding story increasingly out of synch with the others.

If A Goofy Movie was one-fifth as demented as Tiny Toons, it might have been worth watching. Instead it is bland, a barely television-length cartoon stretched out to fill a feature, and not much fun.
