Avis à la une
The director Holzman reveals he is a child of the 60's where "Make love not war" was a catchphrase. The overall theme of this film is that tensions between warring parties can be solved by getting some action. With this in mind and an impressive cast, this film caught our attention at the Eye Candy Hall of Fame. First of all it stars Griffin Drew (2nd team All-Century). Other actors of interest are Shauna O'Brien (as Elke--the friend) and Lisa Boyle. As a public service announcement, Ms. Boyle's scenes are quite tame and there are better films out there to display her true abilities. We don't know if this was intentional or not because she plays a teenage girl and the producers may have feared it would be bordering on kiddie porn. All we can say is that no girls at our high schools came close to being as mature as Ms. Boyle's stature. The good part is that Ms. Drew and Ms. O'Brien make up for this omission and beyond (the hot tub scene).
Edward Herman movie features a decent story line involving a disfunctional family caught up in the non-communication syndrome common to families where the husband has re-married to a younger woman who is rejected by the teenage daughter. A bit over played and under acted but saved by the sage advice (and liberal sexuality) of the "heroine", Elke played convincingly by the enticing Shauna O'Brien. Griffen Drew is delectable as Linda, the put-upon new wife, while Lisa Boyle is her usual vixen-like self as the rejecting daughter. The sex scenes are tasteful and erotic but lack emotion and passion, as is so often the case in this genre of soft core films. Still the morale fiber is kind of unique and the ending holds a bit of interest as everything comes together and the future looks considerably brighter for all concerned.
Griffin Drew & Lisa Boyle - post silicone. Raelyn Saalman and Shauna O'Brien pre-silicone.
Griffin and Shauna look fabulous and they share a tender scene together in the bathtub that looks so real. The lighting, the pace, and everything is just perfect. Griffin has a few early scenes including a fantasy scene and one with her husband. But she leaves part way thru the movie and Shauna takes over, shagging anything that moves - including the husband. The only one she doesn't seduce is Lisa Boyle's character. Instead they play dress-up. Lisa's scenes usually involve shady boyfriends and don't seem as hot as the other scenes.
Shauna is amazingly hot in this movie and it's too bad she's since ruined her look with balloon implants. Oh well, at least we can remember her natural beauty with this movie.

Let's be honest, one does not watch a movie such as this for the intellectual kind of stimulation. It is softcore porn, and is closer to that genre than film. As such, the acting is near always amateurish and unrealistic; story line ridiculous if even existent; and most importantly, its structure is segregated into sex scenes with filler space between them to fake a movie format. A good softcore movie has many great sex scenes, and somewhat entertaining if imbecile filler space. "Friend of the Family" has many good sex scenes, and filler space that is as kind hearted as it is hilariously absurd. This adds up well, recommended! (do make sure to get the unrated version, even god knows that softcores have multiple edits.)
A Friend of the Family has amazingly quite a bit to offer for a b-movie. The important being sex and nudity. But hey, the acting is actually very tolerable. The ladies (Lisa Boyle, Shauna O'brien and Griffen Drew) are amazing to look at with better than average sex and nudity scenes. The dialogue could be better, but then quality dialogue was not high on my reasons for renting this movie. This is a very worthwhile rental.

- AnecdotesLisa Boyle was 29 years old playing an 18 year old, and is actually 4 years older in real life than Griffin Drew, who plays her step mother.
- GaffesDuring the sex scene in the open-topped car, the boom is visible at 35:13 and stays in shot for two seconds. Throughout the entire scene, its shadow can be clearly seen on the background.
