Weird fatal couple

Speaking about thrillers with elements of eroticism, as well as those involved in them, initially, to a lesser or greater extent, labeled in category "B", which could perhaps only be filmed in the nineties, four components involuntarily catch our attention, in smaller or larger proportions accompanying both categories - murders, a moderately twisted plot, profanity, mainly using one single word, nudity. And if in the first case the mentioned components often serve as a kind of addition to the overall action, then in the second usually the emphasis on them completely fills the frame.

Actually, the film in question can be classified as one of these category "B" products. There are two main characters. Served fourteen years for a murder he didn't commit, pretending to be Elvis Presley, an eccentric guy. A person of not particularly difficult behavior, in the person of Kari Wuhrer, who in particular may be known to fans of computer games for her role as Tanya in "Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2" (2000), driving around here in a red Corvette.

Chance brings them together somewhere in the vicinity of Las Vegas and together they decide to be a kind of "Bonnie and Clyde", with the difference that they oppose themselves not to law enforcement agencies, but to the Italian mafia. The narrative moves at a ragged pace, but gradually gains momentum, covering locations from a landfill with neon signs, city backyards and desert to the Hoover Dam.

Meanwhile, returning to the introduction. Sometimes in some B-movies you can sometimes find some interesting details, but here everything succinctly fits into what has been said, or, to put it another way, apart from the varying degrees of Kari's clothes and undress, there is nothing special to look at.

Kari Wurher looks good...that's about it.

Wonderfully written dialogue, such as, "Well, if it isn't d--kface" abounds in this Skinimax-style film that won't do much for you unless you're a Kari Wuhrer fan. In that case, there's plenty to see, but keep the remote close by. Fans of William Forsythe will appreciate his Elvis one-liners and fighting style-- it's as if the King himself has hit you with an uppercut.

A CLASSY PURE 90's PULP THRILLER

Loved this old school crime flick in all it's pure 90's Low-budget B-movie charm!!! Here in England this Gem is known as The Last American Elvis, rather than Beyond Desire but both names are cool in my opinion. The always great yet very underrated William Forsythe is great here in a rare lead role as a charismatic, charming & rugged ex-con named Ray Patterson who has just gotten out of prison after serving 14 years for a murder he didn't commit. As soon as Ray is released he gets mixed up with a beautiful & mysterious lady of the night called Rita played by Kari Wuher, a strong performance & her evil boss played by Leo Rossi & wants to find the person who set him up. I really liked IT'S pulp fiction feel & look to it all, especially with William Forsythe dressed in a black suit with a white shirt, very Tarantino style & thoughts of Reservoir Dogs & Desperado came to mind as well as From Dusk Till Dawn & i think William Forsythe would've made the perfect Seth Gecko & wouldn't wiped the floor with Clooney in my opinion. This fun flick is also a nice time Capsule of the 90's DTV erotic Thriller material that filled up many shelves at the video store, great memories of a now lost time.

This B-movie Gem is proper pulp & felt like the type of twisty-mystery Crime Thriller that Tarantino would love & Forsythe's Ray could even walk into a Tarantino film & fit in fine!!! Forsythe's performance is Excellent here & shows what a fantastic actor he is & yet still underrated & looked at as just another "Character Actor" but he's one of my favourites of all time!!! For other great Forsythe roles check out Things to do in denver when you're dead, The Substitute, The Rock, Direct Hit, The Devil's Rejects & many more. The Last American Elvis is a Las Vegas set dusty Crime Thriller that's got all the ingredients of the Classic pulp flicks or Novels, a bag a cash & an ex-con, a framed man, A beautiful mysterious lady, a Crime boss & plenty of Erotic sex scenes & shootouts!!! Pure pulp B-movie fun with a great soundtrack too!!!

bomb

Film starts out below average and worsens; last 20 minutes are especially bad as it completely falls apart. Awful script and except for Forsythe (who deserves better than this tripe) the performances range from weak to embarrassing. Film has perhaps the dumbest mobsters in the history of cinema. Occasionally the pathetic nature of the film provides unintended laughs but mainly is just dull and desperate.

Beyond Desire

The always groggy Forsythe stars in this straight to video venture as a recently released ex-con who pairs up with a Vegas call girl (Wuhrer), out to settle a score with the man who framed him. Rossi co-stars as the man who framed him.
