The film was previously titled " Ek Anari Ek Khiladi".
The film marked Akshay and Saif's second hit after YEH DILLAGI which released in the same year, however their pairing didn't work as their other films flopped.
This was a remake of the 1991 Hollywood movie The Hard Way. Starring Michael J. Fox and James Woods
Shah Rukh Khan stated during the casting of the film he was very interested in playing the role done by Michael .J.Fox in the original film. But when he was told that Akshay Kumar was cast in the role done by James Wood in the original , he backed off. Shah Rukh believed that when Akshay was cast in that role ,he took 50% of the film's glamour content. Shah Rukh thought Naseeruddin Shah or Om Puri should have been cast in the role of the cop. Shah Rukh wanted a older actor for the part, just like the original Hollywood version. After seeing the film Shah Rukh thought the film lacked the depth of the English version. The Hindi version was made as a out and out comedy.
" Chura Ke Dil Mera" was sampled for the song " BKAB".The song was included in the soundtrack for the Hollywood movie V For Vendetta.
