As we write this, four superhero movies have been officially announced and dated for 2027. Those are Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, Man of Tomorrow, The Batman Part II, and Avengers: Secret Wars.

That's going to be a stacked second half of the year!

While it's admittedly still very early, we probably know equally as much about each of these future blockbusters. With that in mind, now seems as good a time as any to rank 2027's Marvel and DC offerings from least to most anticipated.

It feels like every time we talk about Batman lately it’s about the movies that aren’t here yet — Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II is still a ways off, James Gunn’s The Brave and the Bold hasn’t even rolled cameras, and fans have been wondering when the Dark Knight will actually return to screens in a real way, but the truth is you won’t have to wait much longer because a brand-new animated Batman film is right around the corner.

The news came in the midst of concerns that the movie, which does appear to be officially titled The Batman - Part II for the time being, may have been cancelled or been hit with another significant delay, with speculation continuing to mount that DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran might be planning to either introduce a brand-new take on The Dark Knight in The Brave and The Bold, or fold Robert Pattinson's BatVerse take on the iconic hero into the Dcu.

There's a lot of uncertainty surrounding DC Studios' plans for Batman. The Brave and the Bold was announced at the start of 2023, but hasn't taken shape since then, and now appears to be less of a priority than the recently announced Wonder Woman movie.

The intention is to tell the story of Bruce Wayne learning he has a son, Damian, whom he then trains as Robin. It's a simple story on the surface, but one DC Studios is struggling to figure out; surely not helping matters is that Matt Reeves' highly anticipated The Batman sequel is on track for a 2027 release.

Unbound is upbeat, optimistic, full of hope for the future, has a deep-rooted connection to Kryton throughout the movie’s arc rather than keeping it as a one-and-done forgotten backstory, and above all, boasts a villain formidable enough to single-handedly capture and beat Superman.

Batman's figure is based on the opening scene, while The Joker takes inspiration from the middle of the movie, during which The Dark Knight has to save Vickie Vale from The Clown Prince of Crime at the museum. These debuted at San Diego Comic-Con and are scaled at 3.75 inches tall.

James Gunn shares an update on whether Robert Pattinson's Batman will be integrated into the DC Universe. As DC Studios works on a new movie for Batman set in Gunn's Dcu timeline, Matt Reeves' The Batman universe is also ongoing and set under the separate Elseworlds banner. Pattinson will reprise the role in The Batman 2, which will begin filming at the end of 2025.

However, some DC audience members have made it clear that they want to see Pattinson's take on The Dark Knight join the Dcu rather than exist outside of it. While Gunn has commented on casting Batman for the Dcu with a separate actor, many are still holding out hope for Pattinson's Bruce Wayne to join DC Studios' main continuity.

It's now been over two years since DC Studios announced its "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" Dcu slate. The likes of The Authority, Waller, and Booster Gold have since stalled, and we're currently no closer to learning who will play Batman in The Brave and the Bold.

The Dark Knight made a shadowy cameo appearance in Creature Commandos, but work on his team-up with Robin isn't progressing as quickly as many fans would like. DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has admitted to having a hard time figuring out the character, something likely not helped by Matt Reeves' (admittedly long-delayed) plans for The Batman Part II.

Now that Reeves' script is finally finished, chances are Gunn will have an easier time figuring out how to differentiate the Dcu's Batman from the one portrayed by Robert Pattinson. However, he might need to find a writer for it first.

Robert Pattinson will be back in the Batsuit after all. It looks like the script for The Batman 2 is finally done. Matt Reeves, who directed and co-wrote the first film, just posted a photo on X that’s getting a lot of attention.

In the picture, he’s sitting next to screenwriter Mattson Tomlin, and between them is what fans believe is the finished script for the sequel. Reeves didn’t say much, but the post itself was enough to get DC fans excited.

The photo seems to confirm that progress is being made on the next chapter of this darker, moodier Batman universe. Since the first movie came out in 2022, fans have been waiting for an update.

James Gunn’s upcoming revamped version of the Dcu has to get its hands on its own Batman. As shocking as that line is, it’s only true because all those comments and fan art of Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight standing side-by-side with David Corenswet’s Man of Steel won’t be materializing – not anytime soon, but never at all.

This is because, as it turns out, this new DC Universe is aiming to have a Caped Crusader of its own to carry forward the legacy of Bruce Wayne instead of just letting Pattinson continue his game. Despite all the comments and fan art of Robert Pattinson's Batman standing side-by-side with David Corenswet's Superman, DC Studios is standing firm in its decision to keep the world that Matt Reeves is building separate from the Dcu.

In a new interview with Omelete, DC Studios co-chair Peter Safran explained that Matt Reeves' Batman falls under the studios' purview as an Elseworlds tale, however they'll be a different actor under the Dark Knight's cowl in The Brave and The Bold.

“I think we've been very clear about Batman. We love Matt Reeves, and we're dying to do Batman: Part II. Like I said, we're always going to do some projects that are primarily auteur-driven. Those are projects that we call Elseworlds,” he explained to the Brazilian entertainment site, as he also referenced the Joker films directed by Todd Phillips, which are not part of the new Superman universe.

Original plans called for The Flash to end with Michael Keaton's Batman officially part of the Dceu. He'd have gone on to appear in Batgirl and Batman Beyond, eventually meeting Ben Affleck's Caped Crusader in Crisis on Infinite Earths.

DC Studios scrapped Warner Bros.' plans and will introduce a new Batman in Andy Muschietti's The Brave and the Bold. That movie is expected to feature Bruce Wayne training his son, Damian, as Robin, adapting elements from Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's critically acclaimed Batman and Robin.
