"Panna nikt" must be the most underrated movie ever about young schoolgirls. Where most of the moviegoers know the American-made movies in this genre ("Thirteen" and other forgettable.collections of clichés) this movie got absolutely no attention, even fans of Wajda see his war movies instead. But this is not the way it should be: "Panna nikt" has winning performances, great scenes after great scenes, a terrific score and a strange atmosphere which one could experience only while watching Andrzej Zulawski movies. It's very sad that Hollywood garbage have mostly at least a score of 6.0 even if the movie is garbage. "Panna nikt" is in this very moment 5.9! All in all one of the best movies ever about schoolgirls and schoolgirl rivalry.
When I was a teen, well in fact very young teen that movie was my favourite one. But just until I've read the book, then I was done with pimples and this movie. The movie is not coherent in many moments, plot is falling apart. The only pluses of the movie are motion picture by late Krzysztof Ptak and acting skills of older generation of actors like Stanisława Celińska, Małgorzata Pieczyńska and noticeable episode by one of the best theatrical actresses - Małgorzata Hajewska-Krzysztofik. The young trio of actresses fades to the background, only Anna Wielgucka is half decent. Anyway, nothing can save this movie, the one to avoid.
I've never been a teenage Polish girl but I understand exactly how one feels and thinks after watching this movie. It's a perfect mirror to the post-communist Poland's lifestyle, and in the meantime an outstanding story about the three girls' friendship. The young actresses have an excellent performance together. The movie happens to make you look through Maryszka's eyes and interpret the developments with her feelings.
The director has done a good job throughout the movie, especially the beginning, which in most cases is the hardest part. The scene showing Maryszka "becoming a woman" definitely impacts the viewer and gives him the feeling "Hey this is going to be interesting!". Many aspects of daily life take place in the movie throughout, but the main theme rotates around Maryszka's turning heterodox because of her friends and then the betrayal she faces. A must for any keen cinema enthusiast.

This movie has been made by the most notable director in Poland, who is treated in this country as an icon of cinema. I am far from trying to disregard his values for polish cinematography, but this movie has all flaws of a typical debut from a not-very-talented rookie. Young actresses, probably heavily influenced by the director, try to fit in the old school of acting( at least in Poland something like this exists), which is far too emotional, to the point of being ridiculous. And, while talking to each other, they produce the most improbable utterances (a sort of pseudo-poetic language). All in all, if you are a rebellious teenager with spots on your face (and not a very good taste), you may enjoy this production. In any other case, stay away from it,and watch some classics by Wajda instead.
