good shorty

Mark Veau, the man after two movies made a short one, this one and a movie, also a 'long' short, hahaha The Hook of...This one is a bit better than Hook. It's shorter and there is more blood in it. Funny to see are the posters on the wall, you can see it's deep eighties, a poster of the group Berlin, man can it go wronger? this short movie inspired some other dudes to make it a longer version called the refrigerator. But this is the short one, hard to get only on NTSC VHS and OOP of course, I don't know if Mark is still online to buy some copies? Anyway, it contains a bit more blood and a bit of gore but the score they used makes the movie creepier, and the way the camera is used made me think of Evil Dead. Wide angel zoomed in. Attack also has a bit of a cult status, don't know why but if you search The Net you will see. Try to catch a copy if you could, worth watching, you will be polite to your fridge the next time...brrrrr

From "Killer Frige's" Co-Writer/Producer Mark Veau

It's ironic that literally twenty years after Michael Savino and I made "Frige" while students in college -- It gets all of this attention even to this day. Just a couple of interesting points: We had a $25 budget (for the smoke bombs etc.), It was shot on 1/2" video (before camcorders; separate deck & camera), No script (that's obvious) It was built around footage we shot for other projects, It was actually shot and produced in 1984 -- So this may very well be the first project shot and released on home video -- Ever; and we're pretty sure it was the first project with a $25 budget ever reviewed in VARIETY and FANGORIA. The soundtrack was created by spinning vinyl records at various pitch backward and forward through an analog audio processor made from an old reel-to-reel deck. The point I'm trying to make is this... We did this on our own time (not for any class) because of a love for film and video and the creativity it sparks. We never dreamed that twenty years later -- It would be used as a medium for discussion for good (and bad) filmmaking on something called the Internet -- And yes... we are now shooting a feature length "Killer Frige." Thanks!

Best bad movie I've ever seen!

If you like bad movies, this is the one to see. It's incredibly low-budget special effects (you'll see what I mean) and use of non-actors was what gave this film it's charm. If you're bored with a group of friends, I highly recommend renting this B movie gem. It's mulletrific!

Scary and Original

If you're a film major in college, you should be required to watch this horror short. No more than ten minutes long, the story is about an evil refrigerator that goes nuts and decides to kill everybody in the house. Enough said, this film was made by college students in Massachusetts. Low budget, with a college camera, and a non payed cast and crew, this film is an example of a local independent film.

Ever seen anyone stabbed to death by a refridgerator? Want to?

Ever get that feeling you were being watched by your appliances?

If not, you're just weird. This movie is concrete evidence that they watch and will turn on you at a moment's notice. And its the best acting I've ever seen in an appliance. If you like this kind of movie, you'll love Attack of the Killer Refrigerator.

Great short movie! Sex and blood! All in a college setting, who could ask for more?! I felt I could have made this movie.

My friends and I rented this movie expecting the chieesiest movie we'd ever seen. Turned out it was kinda cool! It reminds me of the movies me and my friends made in our backyards about homosexual zombies. Definitly worth a couple bucks and a few minutes of your time. If you have half an hour to kill why not watch it twice?!

one of the two best movies about a killer refrigerator

That warning against chipping the ice in your fridge is there for a reason...

An amusingly stupid short in which a refrigerator does indeed attack and kill. Curiously, there's also a feature-length film with the same idea, The Refrigerator (1991). And evidently this short is going to be remade for a feature as well?

On video with The Hook of Woodland Heights (1990) (V), again, much more amusing than scary. These are also available on DVD now from the producers, along with another even lesser-seen short of theirs, Days Before Christmas.

I love this flick!

This has got to be thee epitome of what I consider a great horror flick! No budget, cheesy gore, lines made up on the spot, and to make it better, it was paired with an equally great semi-longer flick, the hook of woodland heights. They just DON'T make them like this any more, and probably never will! I just wish Michael Savino would of followed through on the movie Joy Ride that he mentions in the behind the scenes footage. But hearing that a full length killer fridge is in the works makes up for it! An absolute must for horror fans and people looking for some laughs and scares on a Friday night. If any of you goreheads out there haven't seen this one yet, add it to the list of things to do before you die! KILLER FRIDGE RULES!!!

no budget effort, and it shows

It seriously has to be seen to be believed. Yes, the movie is about a refrigerator attacking a house full of people who previously abused it...in particular the one guy who chipped the ice off of its interior to cool down some drinks at a party. This, of course, is explained in a flashback...by the refrigerator. Yes, the refrigerator has a flashback. It's for gems like this that you should see the movie. How a stationary object, possessed or otherwise, would succeed in killing half a dozen people is beyond me, but it happens in this short film. I know, I know--it was a college film with no budget, etc etc; so props for the effort and all. But seriously...I guess you should really just see it for yourself.

Amateur night

My review was written in November 1990 after watching the picture on Donna Michele video cassette.

Amateur horror films hit video in a bait & switch program, consisting of this short film plus "The Hook of Woodland Heights" and a laughably inept TV "making of" featurette to fill out the running time.

Misspelled on screen "Attack of the Killer Refridgerator", the 15-minute item is a poorly made mid-'80s student film about a fridge that gets mad after being "abused" at a party, where the heroes chip away the ice in its freezer compartment. Gory makeup effects ensue when it kills people, including exhibitionist filmmaker Mark Veau.

Accompanying slasher movie "The Hook..." is no better. And the BTS on the cassette of "The Hook" is an unwitting parody of such documentaries. There's precious little talent displayed by these tyro filmmakers.
