Does anyone know where I can get this series on DVD? I had taped the this show on VHS years ago, and I was so disappointed when it went off the air. It was such a great funny show. Its nice to know other people remember it and appreciate it. I kind of thought I was the only one to remember this show, at least I know there is at least 8 of us out there. Its strange when really great shows like this go completely unnoticed and can get axed so quick. I really hope I can find someone to buy this show from.
Its kind of like Young Indiana Jones Chronicles that was so good but completely unappreciated by the masses. I really question the taste of Nielsen family homes.

This came out while I was in college. I remember recognizing the lead characters from the movie Excalibur. I recall it being well acted with believable and compelling characters. The scenery seemed authentic. And the stories revolved around family life and values but was set during the time of knights and kings
I watched it faithfully and then it just up and disappeared. Years later I recall seeing several or maybe a gazillion TV shows based around the same time period with similar, if not slightly more unbelievable and fantastic, myths. It's very refreshing to be reminded that as parents, and humans in general, though technologies have changed, our base feelings of love and compassion as well as the various stages and angst of emotional growth remains the same.
I very much wish they'd replay these, if not revive them. :)

I watched this show with great anticipation, and was disappointed every week. I certainly expected better from such a good cast and premise. The dialog was cheesy, and the situations and stories were nothing like a medieval family would have ever found themselves in. I always got the impression that someone had just written a regular modern nighttime soap opera a la Dynasty and just dressed it up in 12th-century clothes. It was like one of those bad historical romance novels, where the author hasn't done any research, come to life. The production values were good, with beautiful costumes and sets. They must have had a pretty big budget.
I loved this sitcom and was terribly sad that it was cancelled. I'd love to see it again; I imagine there is little chance of that. As a fan of Excalibur (1981) I was especially charmed by the casting. One of the more interesting shows to come along.
I'm so glad that I taped the series when it aired, It is always a good show to watch again, with the exception of the Robin of Sherwood series there has always been a shortage of good genre drama set in the middle ages. It had some genuinely funny moments with enough drama and fast paced action to keep you interested. I've often heard people refer to the show as the 90210 of the middle ages, i think that its a good description of the show but not in a derogates way of describing it but rather as a complement to the style of the show, if only it had gone as long as 90210.
Who ever decided to can this show made a big mistake...

- AnecdotesAccording to Executive Producer Gil Grant, the series was intended to be set about 1350, during the middle of Edward the Third's reign. Since the series wasn't intended to be completely accurate, and the Production Designer was concerned with criticism over anachronisms creeping into the set design, the producers opted to use a generic medieval time period instead.
