A different pilot, titled Camp Bicknell (1992), was filmed with Elena Wohl, Paul Scherrer, and Ginger Orsi in the roles played by Mary Page Keller, Jerry O'Connell, and Tina Majorino.
According to Jay Mohr, the character Dorfman got a pet penguin in the last few episodes because the show's ratings were low, and ABC executives cited studies that showed ratings go up exactly one point when a pet like a dog becomes a series regular. However, these executives refused to incorporate a dog into the show. The penguin didn't help ratings, and the show was ultimately canceled.
Series regular Hilary Swank would go on to win two Academy Awards for Best Actress in Boys Don't Cry (1999) and Million Dollar Baby (2004), and recurring guest star Jared Leto would go on to win one Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Dallas Buyers Club (2013). Despite only lasting one season, this sitcom's cast has earned more combined Academy Award wins than all the other ABC TGIF (1989) sitcoms' casts combined.
