The late Hulk Hogan started his professional wrestling career in the late 1970s before he became one of the greatest and recognizable wrestling stars of all time. Near the beginning of his career, he also had a role in Rocky III.

The tragic yet sudden passing of Hulk Hogan has left the wrestling community in shock, as the WWE superstar was an inspiration for many gym bros. The fans would be mesmerized by his hulking physique, even in old age, but his regular years were something else, when his “24-inch pythons” made the wrestling business go wild. The exact size of his biceps was never confirmed because it was never measured.
This was intriguing because even a ‘prime’ Arnold Schwarzenegger’s biceps were just 22 inches via Greatest Physiques. This was surprising considering he was titled Mr. Olympia 7 times. However, Hogan’s towering physique was not limited to his dedication to having an inhuman workout routine.
After all, he admitted to the usage of steroids in the 90s to make people stop and become a part of Hulkamania. Sadly, it was not just for entertainment because the wrestler suffered several hard bumps,...

Pro-wrestler and 1980s bastion of masculinity Terry "Hulk" Hogan passed away on July 24, 2025. He was 71. He was best-known early in his career for his sweaty antics in the WWF (later WWE) ring, and later became better known for some of his controversial actions and opinions outside of it. Also controversial was his filmography. Hogan, like many pro-wrestlers, attempted multiple times to become a movie star, although it was with only dubious success. He effectively played versions of himself in the bonkers sports dramas "Rocky III" (1982) and "No Holds Barred" (1989), but more frequently appeared in whimsical, kid-friendly movies like "Suburban Commando" (1991), "Mr. Nanny" (1993), and "Santa With Muscles" (1996).
Few of these films were hits -- indeed, most of Hogan's kids movies were widely derided bombs -- but that didn't stop the Hulkster from trying. As recently as 2009, Hogan made another kids movie -- his final live-action film appearance -- in the form...

Renowned wrestling legend Hulk Hogan passed away at the age of 71, on July 24, 2025, leaving behind a legacy in WWE as well as in the entertainment industry, to remember him by. So yes, while many of you might immortalize him in your heart for his wrestling career, I’ll cherish him for something a little different—his silly but fun movie Suburban Commando.
Yes, I know it only has a 15% Rt rating and most people laugh at it. But Burt Kennedy’s 1991 sci-fi action comedy, starring Hulk Hogan and Shelly Duvall remains my perfect guilty pleasure. It was the first time I saw a well-built muscular hunk like Hogan play the role of an alien hero who crash-lands on Earth and ends up living with a regular suburban family.

Hulk Hogan, who passed away at the age of 71, headlined 1993’s Mr. Nanny, which might’ve accidentally shaped Dwayne Johnson‘s Hollywood run in the years to come. Standing on a minuscule 6% Tomatometer score, the movie was both a critical and commercial flop upon its release, and did little to extend his career as a potential movie star.
Johnson, on the flip side, was able to break the cycle of pro-wrestlers failing to break into Hollywood, and his approach to the business likely stemmed from the failure of Hogan’s 1993 family comedy.
Mr. Nanny Was the Antithesis of Dwayne Johnson’s Hollywood Run
Mr. Nanny featured Hulk Hogan in the role of a former pro wrestler turned nanny and bodyguard for two kids. Unfortunately, instead of propelling Hogan’s career as the family-friendly movie star, the movie was panned by critics and general audiences.

Before The Rock morphed into movie star Dwayne Johnson, and well-before John Cena traded his jorts for a Peacemaker helmet, Terry “Hulk Hogan” Bollea made the leap from a professional-wrestling ring to Hollywood.
Hogan was the man who put WWE (then WWF) on the map — quite literally, in most places. Vince McMahon Jr. dreamt of taking his dad’s Wwwf (the extra “W” was for the “Wide” in what had been the World Wide Wrestling Federation) from a regional league to a national one (the “World Wide” was just a marketing gimmick). But to steamroll his competitors in their own territories, McMahon needed two things: TV syndication, and one huge draw. Fortunately, he had a huge dude, Bollea, who stood 6’7” and famously had 24” biceps (really they were 22”), on his roster. Together, they created Hulk (because he was big like The Incredible Hulk) Hogan (to resonate with the northeast’s — the...

Hulk Hogan, who passed away today at the age of 71, was never funny exactly. But as a talk-show guest in the ‘80s and '90s, the wrestling superstar was entertaining as heck.

His massive size made mere mortals like Johnny Carson appear comically small, for starters. And Hogan was a master showman, flexing his pecs, threatening his rivals and croaking out slogans like, “Whatcha gonna do when Hulkamania runs wild on you?!” Like Mr. T, his co-star in Rocky III, Hogan had a distinctive visual look that was custom-made for the MTV era.
When he co-hosted SNL with Mr. T, Hogan’s “Let Me Tell You Something, Brother!” delivery earned him laughs based on pure enthusiasm. So it’s not hard to understand why Hollywood producers looked at him — especially after Arnold Schwarzenegger scored with Twins and Kindergarten Cop — and thought, “This might be the next comedy superstar.”

While the recently departed Hulk Hogan may have had a checkered cinematic career (see No Holds Barred or Suburban Commando...or don't), one of his movies has become a beloved cult classic. Starting next month, you'll be able to watch it on its new streaming home. Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Joe Dante's satirical 1990 sequel to his hit creature feature, is coming to HBO Max starting on August 1.
In the film, which is as much a spoof of the original Gremlinsas it is a sequel to it, Hogan turns up in a clever breaking of the fourth wall. In the film, the titular creatures are rampaging through a corporate high-rise that includes a movie theater...which then causes the actual movie to stop. Before Dwayne Johnson and John Cena found their way from the WWE ring to the big screen, Terry Bollea aka Hulk Hogan provided a case study in how wrestling stars could become movie stars. Hogan was a ubiquitous presence in movie theaters — and on TV screens — during the height of his fame in the 1980s and 1990s. He died at his home in Clearwater, Fl on July 24 at age 71.
In his later years, Hogan was better known as a reality TV star, headlining the two-season VH1 series Hogan Knows Best and appearing on its one-and-done follow-up, Brooke Knows Best. He also had cameos on comedy series ranging from The Inbetweeners to The Goldbergs.
But Hogan's movie roles remain the best examples of his outsized persona. Here's a recap of his most memorable film appearances.

WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan -- one of the most popular professional wrestlers of all time by a country mile -- has passed away at the age of 71. Hogan's contributions to sports entertainment were legendary, having been WWE's most popular babyface during its 1980s golden age before helping the company's main competitor, WCW, become a force in the '90s. That said, Hogan might never have joined WCW if his Hollywood career had taken off the way he'd planned, but it was hampered by his tendency to star in some truly bizarre projects.
After some memorable roles in "Rocky III" and "The A-Team," Hogan decided to embark on a career as a leading man. However, his success as a wrestler failed to translate to the box office, with the grappler starring in a string of flops, some of which have become infamous in "so-bad-it's--good" circles. Terry Bollea, best known by his professional wrestling moniker Hulk Hogan, has passed away. He was 71 years old.
Per TMZ, medics responded to a call for a "cardiac arrest" on early Thursday morning at Hogan's home in Clearwater, Florida. The WWE Hall of Famer was seen being carried out of the home on a stretcher and into an ambulance, though it's not yet clear when he was pronounced dead.
Hogan's passing follows reports and rumors that he had been on his "deathbed" in recent weeks. In May, TMZ reported that the former pro wrestler was suffering complications from a neck procedure. There were also rumors that he had suffered brain damage and fallen into a coma, but his wife, Sky, denied this on social media.

Hulk Hogan, the professional wrestling legend who embodied "Hulkamania" in the 1980s and sent sports entertainment to unheard-of heights, has died. Hogan also appeared in films and TV programs over the course of his long career, and remained a mainstay in the world of professional wrestling. TMZ reports that Hogan died of heart failure this morning at his home in Clearwater, Florida. Hogan was 71.
Born Terry Gene Bollea in Augusta, Georgia, on August 11, 1953, Hogan was inspired to become a professional wrestler by "Superstar" Billy Graham. He began wrestling professionally in the late 1970s, and took on the name "Hulk Hogan" in 1979, when he was signed by Vince McMahon to wrestle for the World Wrestling Federation: Hulk, thanks to his sculpted physique, and Hogan, because McMahon wanted him to play an Irish character. Do you smell what The Rock is cookin’? Well, Hollywood did, but it wasn’t for a lack of Dwayne Johnson not only trying but challenging his image to ensure his career turned out exactly how he wanted.
When Dwayne Johnson first tried to make it in Hollywood, he came across criticisms not for his acting but his look, remembering being told, ‘If you wanna be a leading man, you’re too big; you can’t go to the gym, you have to lose weight, you gotta go on a diet.’ And if you don’t know any better, then you buy into it, so I started to question myself then. Some of those films at the time I was making, I think, reflect that. And then a moment came where I said, ‘’Excuse my language but f**k that, I’m not doing this anymore,...

Science fiction is a genre that thrives on mankind's ability to imagine the future. Sci-fi films take us to galaxies far, far away, or they guide us down the rabbit hole into a computer program. We can visit forbidden planets or envision technologies that transform our own world, exploring space, or learning all too late that in space, no one can hear us scream. Ray Bradbury, author of "The Martian Chronicles," put it this way: "Science fiction is the most important literature in the history of the world, because it's the history of ideas, the history of our civilization birthing itself."
By revisiting the films on this list, however, we can imagine a different sort of future: someone's future acting career. The sci-fi genre has provided a jumping-off point for countless stars who went on to make their mark elsewhere, including future Oscar winners, future comedians, future talk show hosts,...

It may have been more than forty years since they fought each other in the ring in Rocky III, but Sylvester Stallone and Hulk Hogan have plenty of vivid memories, and lots of praise for each other. In a new Instagram post, Stallone shared a video of an interview with Hogan, recalling his experiences playing the wrestler Thunderlips for his fight scene in Rocky III. In the video, the WWE Hall of Famer voices his amazement that Stallone was able to hold his own physically in the ring, despite an obvious weight and height advantage Hogan had on him.
"He was like a buck-sixty (160) pounds, and I was like 320 pounds," Hogan says in the video. "He did everything, he did all his own stunts." The 71-year-old, who was 6' 7" at the time, admits he almost broke Stallone's collarbone with a kick, but admitted his toughness kept him in one piece,...

Hulk Hogan's reality TV career initially thrived, but it quickly spiraled due to personal struggles and legal issues. Hogan's affair with his daughter's best friend contributed to the downfall of his marriage, not reality TV. Following his struggles, Laila Ali's unexpected phone call helped Hogan rethink his life choices and saved him from despair.
Despite the ups and downs, Hulk Hogan maintains a solid net worth today, in large part, thanks to a lawsuit against Gawker. In truth, following his divorce from Linda Hogan, it seemed like Hulk's financial situation was hitting a downward spiral. That matched with the end of his journey on reality TV.
His VH1 journey actually got off to a promising start. Hogan Knows Best had solid ratings, and was ahead of its time. However, after just two seasons, the show was off the air and the damage was so bad there was no turning back.

A fascinating combination of stars is coming down the chimney for the family comedy The Man With The Bag. Those who don’t follow professional wrestling may not appreciate just how tough and grueling it is. It isn’t enough to be on the road 200+ days a year, getting dropped on your head or your back every night, dealing with injuries, losing your spot on the roster, and worse. If you’ve seen films like The Iron Claw, The Wrestler, or the old Beyond the Mat documentary, you know that professional wrestling is grind like no other.
But the other aspect that goes underappreciated is how much wrestling relies on acting. If you have any hope of making it big, it isn’t enough to be able to do a tope suicida or Texas Cloverleaf on the way to a 5-star mat classic. You have to be able to act your role, day in and day out. Often, you have to act live, in front of an audience of thousands,...

Hulk Hogan's popularity in the 1980s elevated professional wrestling to a global phenomenon through Hulkamania. The attempt to make Hulk Hogan a major film star failed miserably with poorly received films like No Holds Barred and Suburban Commando. Hogan's film career failure stands in contrast to the successful film careers of wrestlers like John Cena and Dwayne Johnson, who learned from Hogan's mistakes and exercised better creative control.
No other professional wrestling star in history has attained the level of popularity that Hulk Hogan had in the 1980s, when the bleach-blond-haired Hogan’s larger-than-life persona, rippling muscles, and unparalleled charisma catapulted wrestling from the status of regional theater to a global phenomenon through the power of Hulkamania.

One of two Christmas movies starring a wrestler-turned-actor was a critical disaster and is considered one of the worst movies of all time. The other movie led by a former WWE star fared significantly better due to its R-rated horror comedy style and embrace of the wrestler's heel persona. The latter movie also had a stronger cast and stayed true to what viewers expected from a wrestling superstar's Christmas movie, ultimately outperforming the former.
Two famous WWE wrestlers have played Santa Claus in two unrelated Christmas movies, and only one of these was a critical disaster. While Dwayne Johnson made the transition to movie stardom look easy, not every WWE wrestler who wanted to become a mainstream Hollywood actor has been so lucky. For every John Cena and Dave Bautista, there are many stars like Triple H and Stone Cold Steve Austin who couldn’t make the jump from the ring to the big screen.

Hulk Hogan starred in a 1996 comedy that might be the worst Christmas movie ever made. The film lacks comedic value and fails to provide any memorable or entertaining moments. Despite Hogan's previous success as an actor, his performance in Santa With Muscles falls flat and fails to meet expectations.
27 years ago, wrestler-turned-actor Hulk Hogan proved his transition to movie stardom wasn’t a guaranteed success when the WWE superstar headlined one of the worst Christmas movies ever made. The long-gestating Hulk Hogan biopic has gotten a fresh update from the Suburban Commando star himself.
Back in 2019, Marvel Cinematic Universe star Chris Hemsworth officially signed on to star in a Hulk Hogan biopic produced by Netflix. Hulk Hogan's lack of success in Hollywood can be attributed to his poor movie choices and limited acting range. Hogan struggled to break out of his muscle-bound nice-guy image and land the right projects at the right time. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's success in Hollywood can be attributed to his diverse acting portfolio and his dedication to choosing good material.
Since both The Rock and Hulk Hogan leveraged their experience as WWE wrestlers to become Hollywood stars, their acting career journeys beg an intriguing question: Why The Rock was successful, but Hulk Hogan was not? Everyone has to start somewhere and exactly where that place may be is often of pretty dubious quality or (at the very least) rather surprising for some of today’s biggest names in the film industry. For example, we all know Jennifer Aniston had her start with Leprechaun, a film she’d probably rather forget (although we think it’s a lot of fun). Now, with current streaming services pulling all kinds of older films and television shows into their libraries, fans can get the chance to see some of those questionable choices that most likely were made to pay the bills. The wrestler turned actor walks a path well trodden by brawny action heroes in this mildly diverting family romp
Here is a genially mediocre throwback to what has always been a rite of passage for Us cinema’s frontline action men: the musclebound star demonstrating how good he is with kids, the better to establish a pension fund that may come in useful when their knees finally give out. Stomping along in the highly profitable footsteps of Schwarzenegger (Kindergarten Cop), Hulk Hogan and Dwayne Johnson (practically his entire filmography), we now find erstwhile galaxy guardian Dave Bautista cast as a rough-edged CIA ass-kicker handed the last-chance assignment of babysitting fatherless tween Chloe Coleman.

Dwayne Johnson will soon not be the only wrestling legend and actor to star in the Fast and Furious franchise, as John Cena has officially been confirmed as a part of the cast of Fast & Furious 9. The confirmation comes after co-star Vin Diesel previously spoke about Cena's involvement in the project back in April, so although the news is now official, it isn't exactly a surprise. Not much has yet been revealed about the character Cena will play, but the character at this time is being described as a "badass." If that's all they're looking for, Cena certainly fits that bill.
The franchise has definitely felt very different following the demise of series star Paul Walker, but with so much money to be made, the show must go on. Full details on the plot have not yet been released, though we know it will be the second of...

Biopics about famous bands and musicians always seem to be a hit at the box office. Considering the band's popularity, it's possible we'll one day see a Foo Fighters movie on the big screen. As of now, there are not any plans to make a film about the band in the works. Still, it's a fun topic of discussion for fans of Foo Fighters, leaving them to speculate who could play the role of David Grohl in such a film. Humorously, Grohl himself recently weighed in on the subject in a radio interview, suggesting he wants a classic horror movie actress to take on the part. Without a beat, Grohl said that he'd personally cast Shelley Duvall to play himself.
"I'm going for Shelley Duvall. Like, look at Shelley Duvall from The Shining. She's like,'Get away from me! Get away from me!'. Like, that's me. That's totally me.
