Avis à la une
I had seen this movie more than fifteen years ago. I was about 17. I remember, I had to go to bed immediately because had things to do in the morning, but couldn't manage. The movie attracted me so much that couldn't stand up and go. It had a fascinating manner, romantic story, dramatic occasions, spiritual interaction with nature. I had been fascinated. After a long time passed, the information lost in impossibilities became possible to get by internet. It is interesting that my search keywords were "a Japanese hunter geisha Sibirian movie", because I didn't remember its name or anything else. I hope I can find and see it again.
Japanese AND Russian?! This is bound to be tragedy on a large scale! But incredibly it does have a happy ending - I must have used up a week's worth of adrenalin getting there! The suspense (for such a slow movie - Japanese/Russian remember?) was excruciating. This is NOT a movie for animal rightists - it's largely about fur traders, dog-sleds and wolves in Siberia. And it's probably not a movie for Americans either. It's a very Japanese Russian film. Or is it a very Russian Japanese film? I'm not sure, but daughter number three wants to watch it again and I think I'll join her. I've been in Japan too long.
...but I really liked it. Why? Maybe because it's honest work.A television movie something between Dersu Uzala and Jeremiah Johnson. Does not have Robert Redford but has a short participation of Maksim Munzuk. Magnificent scenery, good OST, great scenes with animals and some good actors. Yes is a co production between Russia and Japan but for me that is synonymous of quality as is the participation of Nikita Mikhalkov passing almost unnoticed. I confess that I'm a fan of this kind of movies and maybe I'm being a bit nice, so I think it's just for those who like me love this kind of movies that praise the man's struggle with nature, but a fair fight.Pity i only find a DVD version not very good (as my English)with Russian audio and just Hardcode Subtitles in Japanese.
