Released in 1993, this was the last movie directed by Andrea Bianchi (his "Bambola Di Carne" was shot before but released in 1995). By the early '90s, the Italian genre film was already dead, so it was no surprise that this film resulted so disappointing. To begin with, I have zero interest in car race, so the many scenes dedicated to that sport here let me mortally bored.
The plot is about a young pilot trying to break out in the Formula 3 circuit. To make it, he will have to dispute against a bad guy, who is also a pilot, and who will do everything to defeat his rival. There is also a silly romantic subplot involving our "hero" and the daughter of a retired star of Formula 3. Add to that some sex scenes that look like porn footage deprived of the explicit parts and we have a clumsy product that mixes sport, teenage romance and softcore porn.
One of the main problems is that the cast lacked any level of charisma, what made a problem to care about them. Not even the voluptuous curves of Carmen Di Pietro, who plays the horny lover of the villain and is the main provider of the tits and ass parts, could chase away boredom. Cristina Rinaldi (credited as Christine Reynolds) gave her best as the love interest of the protagonist, but her efforts could do nothing against a so poor script. By the way, there is no credit for the screenplay, but some sourcers on the web says it was committed by veteran Piero Regnoli. Well, if he demanded to be uncredited, I can see his point.
The most weird was to see the logo of Coca-Cola in many places, including on a t-shirt used by Cristina Rinaldi! The end credits even thanked the company!!!! Was they expecting some return in terms of marketing from such a low budget project?
The music is credited to Nico Fidenco, but it sounds like generical cheap library cues used in porn films.
The only redeeming factor in watching this movie was to see Andrea Bianchi in his swan's song. I imagine he was happy in having a last chance of working in "normal" cinema in a period in which some of his colleagues, like Mario Bianchi, was fully busied with hardcore pornography. After "Formula 3", Andrea would live for more twenty years, but never directed again. Probably, his only chance of keep working would be to follow the path of Joe D'Amato in the hardcore arena, but it is known that he hated the genre.
