Auntie Lee's Meat Pies

Auntie Lee's Meat Pies has the feel of an early 90s soft core porn if you replaced the sex with death.

As can be expected from this, the acting/dialogue are ridiculously cheesy. The special effects are are equally bad, looking like someone raided their local Spirit Halloween store for body part props.

Things get especially funny when a facsimile of Poison stumble into the kill lair, which starts to take on the look of a glow in the dark mini put. It's pretty nifty looking though, as the world simply doesn't have enough neon drenched massacres.

It's all good dumb fun if you enjoy the goofy take on grisly gore. Amusingly random casting as well, including scream queen Karen Black, Mr Miyagi, that weird looking dude from The Hills Have Eyes and a bunch of Playboy playmates.

This is a crazy horror/comedy in the same vein as Motel Hell. This is not as well written or performed as Motel Hell, but I did enjoy it. Karen Black is a devil worshiper that has her house full of hot chicks lure and kill men and sell them to the community as her famous meat pies. This also has Michael Berryman and Pat Morita as well. This is a very macabre and extremely campy comedy that is as morbid as it is cheesy. Utilizing 80's stereotypes and a lot of T+A, Auntie Lee's Meat Pies is some great family entertainment. The film is hilarious and absolutely outrageous, but it does have a lot of scenes that don't make sense and could have been worked out a bit better in the script. Even with more than it's share of flaws, I did enjoy watching this. For the most part,the film is very tongue in cheek and embraces it's cheesyness. Auntie Lee's Meat Pies is the type of disjointed insanity that is probably best enjoyed with heavy duty pharmaceuticals.

A movie starring Karen Black as a madwoman who lures unsuspecting men to their doom with her stable of young girls and then turns them into meat pies should be a lot more fun than this movie is. It's really unfocused with a lot of padding and there are really only a few gore moments that stand out. Mostly a bore.

From just reading the description, this sounded like a great time, but the execution is lacking. There are a few good gore gags and some creative camera angles/lighting effects, but it goes on too long and focuses on boring subplots instead of digging into the meat of the story.

What's sad is: Karen Black and Pat Morita can do good work. They didn't here. What's also sad is: the cannibalism food product motif had already been done ten years earlier in "Motel Hell," which was weirder and much more original. And the supposedly sultry sex scenes at the end are freakin' awful. I was young in the '90s and remember this style of cinematography, and I'm glad it was only a fad. Put simply: even if you like cheesy horror movies, don't waste your time.
