Quality Norwegian comedy with renowned actors

The main cast in season one of "Mot i brøstet" was a seasoned one, well known from theatre and Arve Opsahl was a well known playing the villain Egon Olsen in the movie series "Olsenbanden". Nils Vogt and Sven Nordin is also well known, starring in both theater and movies. The later seasons broadens the cast, with women also taking the spot. As many humor series, it all revolves around a few locations, most often at Karl Reverud's house, played by Nils Vogt.

It is the theatrical background of the actors which shines through and for people who has live a few decades, it is a heart warming experience to see old reruns of the show on DVD or streaming.

Tore Ryen made a number of comedy series following "Mot i Brøstet", like "Karl & Co" and "Hos Martin". This TV series is the original, packed with humor. Please note though, that after modern days standard the humor is borderline controversial, with the occassional swearing and a bit of "theatrical humor", which often is a bit on the edge.

The TV series is probably not easy to graph for younger people who has not lived through the 90s, a bygone era. However, this is a treasure of Norwegian comedy and culture from the 90s, some years ago. It is worth a binge, especially for 30+ people from Norway.

HA HA HA HA

Oh my God!!!! I loved this show! I would laugh so hard I just about fell off the couch! I laughed until I was out of breath and tears were spurting out of my eyes. I almost had a stomach ache after every single half hour of this show. I hope it all comes out on a collection DVD!!!

best show from my childhood

One of the best shows in the mid 90s in Norway. The show holds up pretty well in todays busy and caotic times, as the show provides humor from simplier times in many peoples lives.

Comedy?

The concept of a comedy show is to make people laugh, but this turd would leave you hanging high and dry.

It was simply the single most embarrasing attempt at comedy at the time it came out. Tore Ryen the single most unwitty writer in all of Norway.

The actors, known as they were, tried their best to make it work, but with a script like that, it must have been like getting dragged through mud!

It was, much like friends, just a thing that was on TV when you came home. At least friends could give you a chuckle every 3 episodes, while Mot i brøstet was an embarrasement then, and so so incredibly dated today.

How did this show make it more than one season!?

It's just beautiful

This TV show is so good. i laugh so much each time i watch it. i have so many great memories from when i was a little boy watching this show on TV2. And now when i've watched this on DVD i get a bit sad that they quit the show after only 8 seasons. it has so many great actors like Arve Opsahl and Sven Nordin two amazing actors who always are funny. Oh and i can't forget Nils Vogt he makes me laugh so much that i almost cried at the end, like in the episode when he was in Copenhagen and the guy asks him that thing.(everybody who's seen the episode knows what i mean) some episodes just makes me happy. like the Christmas specials. When i watch them i think of how much

One of the classics

The three gentlemen living together here form a unique little show with the dynamics between them. Carl the landlors has a Napoleon complex and the shortest fuse of any TV character ever. Half of the fun of the show is to watch the easy going and balanced Nils and the even more easy going henery when they send Carl into his tantrums. The show was made in a era witch was not ruled by political correctness. So some of the jokes might seem a bit to much for the weak ones out there.

The inept talent of Tore Ryen

With this show Norwegian comedy-writer Tore Ryen certainly showed that he knew what his countrymen needed on tv in the 90's, and by the standards of this show the answer was... crap!

This has to be the worst sit-com in the history of all sit-com's. OK, that's maybe pulling it a bit far but the quality and the stupidity of this show was at times mind-blowing (that is, unless you were 10 years old at the time). Had it not been for the fact that it had some great comedy actors (in desperate need of becoming a tv-star?) the hollow writing of Tore Ryen would have shown off more clearly. To top it all off he has no business directing, yet he had the nerve to do so on a number of occasions. The proof of the latter showed in his later sit-com "Holms" where he got his stepdaughter to co-star and the show is like an ABC of how NOT to direct child "actors".

Man, gee wiz, give this man a ticket to Sweden!

Not funny

I used to think that this was quite fun, but that was way back in 1993-94. Nowadays, I find the humour very irritating, predictable and just boring. The series is about Karl Reverud and the people who live with him. And they all say and do "funny things". The problem is that it isn`t funny. All the episodes are the same, and the series suffers from overacting, which doesn`t help it at all.

The best thing is to avoid this and its sequel: Karl & co, which is even worse.
