Only for those who prefer flying-fu to kung-fu

Whoa! I don't think I've seen such a collection of beautiful Asian women all in one movie since "The Inspector Wears Skirts": Cynthia Khan, the young girl that hooks up with the hero, the hero's former girlfriend, the female police officer, the villain's girlfriend (ESPECIALLY her), they all re-affirm my idea that 9 out of 10 Asian women between the ages of 20 and 40 are sexy as hell. Unfortunately, that's about the only worthwhile aspect of "Super Lady Cop". Of course, I realize that people have different tastes, and if you like incoherent stories and silly, sped-up, over-the-top fight scenes with people flying, swirling, jumping, bouncing and rolling like balls, you'll love this film. If, on the other hand, you prefer stories that make sense and fight scenes that allow the stars to show their real abilities, then look for something else. IMO, films like "Super Lady Cop" and "Angel On Fire" are the ones to blame for the fact that Cynthia Khan never achieved as much fame and recognition as she could have, even among genre devotees. (*)

Note: it's possible that there are various versions of this movie out there. On my subtitled DVD version, Cynthia never actually transforms into Chun Li as another reviewer described, although she IS referred to by that name throughout the movie.

Very similar in tone to City Hunter, Cynthia Khan is wonderful though

Boy, this movie is unbelievably odd and crazy. The characters in this film act with an idiocy that rivals that of City Hunter. I mean, these people are just plain goofy. The plot, for whatever it's worth, deals with Cynthia joining up with a cop to battle three awol cyborgs. The first half of the film is mostly comedy that eventually gets annoying (Cynthia doesn't need so many idiots around her). There are a few fights, but things don't pick up until the second half. That's when things really get started. The fights are fast, furious, high-flying, undercranked, and all together entertaining...as long as you take it in good fun. There are some interesting wire tricks used, but they essentially don't get in the way of the stars' skills. The finale has Cynthia transforming into Chun Li and fighting. I must say, she looks many times better than Jackie Chan as Chun Li. She is very beautiful in this film. Overall, a lightweight film that is enjoyable if you watch it in the right mindset.

Excellent kung-fu fighting

I agree with those who disagree about this film's quality, for the first half low development of it's story, and even for the unbalanced mix of comic relief situations and the drama into which the story eventually comes to. One has to be patient with that trend in the early 1990's of the Cantonese film industry. This film contains an aging star (Wah Yuen), a martial arts teacher in real life, and Cynthia Khan at her best in a deadly kung-fu fight on a narrow bridge over a waterfall. Athena Chu is alright, as the cute CID "angel" at odds with the Department's "madam" (woman director) as both are attracted to the awkward inspector Chiu Shui. The action takes place in the future, September 1992, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and pretends to show the effects of the Chinese government abandoning nuclear weapons for the development of select humans into super agents. When a project goes wrong, they try to correct the side effects. The script is not easy to follow, but the action segments in the second part, is. You won't forget the cameo role of Woon Ling Hau as the Old Lady caught in the midst of a CID assault on the rogue super cops' shelter. A classic.
