Action-packed prison drama

THE NAKED CAGE is a cheap women-in-prison movie from Cannon which turns out to be a lot better than I'd expected, given the usual grubby and repetitive constraints of this particular sub-genre. The story involves a woman's no-good boyfriend involving her in a bank robbery, a crime for which she ends up in prison. The usual stereotypes play out, from the lesbian warden to the butch prison inmate, but there are some twists in store to freshen things up a bit. What is notable is the amount of incident this packs into the screenplay: drug addiction, suicide, prison fights, power politics and a riot are all present here, alongside the usual wall-to-wall nudity. It's nothing if not entertaining...
