An earlier Hanna-Barbera production, Scoubidou et l'école des sorcières (1988), was set at Miss Grimwood's Finishing School for Ghouls. An installment of the popular Scooby-Doo franchise, Ghoul School was meant to be a backdoor pilot for a series about Miss Grimwood's girls, which never happened. Graveyard High used a similar premise.
Regular character Vinnie the vampire is a send-up of Fonzie from Happy Days - Les jours heureux (1974).
