A totally unbelievable story with good some acting and some decent dialogues

I finished watching "Stan posiadania" (State of possession) only out of respect for Krzysztof Zanussi and the actors involved in this film, but I was bored by it. The plot is about Tomek (Artur Zmijewski), a noble geography student, who meets Julia (Krystyna Janda), an older woman, at a clinic. The woman is not feeling well, so the boy tries to help her. When his new friend loses the roof over her head, he takes her into his apartment. A romance slowly begins to develop between them. Their relationship is viewed with disdain by the boy's mother (Maja Komorowska), who also professes Christian values, but only to some point. This whole story has a lot of references to Christianity, and I know that Krzysztof Zanussi is very religious. However, I am not religious, so the whole story seemed pointless and the characters completely unrealistic. The only thing that interested me in this movie was the acting and the reality of the 1980s.
