Jithne Bazu Uthne Sar was inspired from and African song " Idjidja" by Alpha Blondy.Amitabh Bachchan had heard the song in Europe and wanted it for the film.
While shooting the climax the makers felt how would they gather so much crowd for the climax.An advertisement got published in newspapers saying Amitabh Bachchan's show is on a particular day at such venue.Everyone expected about thousand to two thousand people would come.but two everyone's surprise 50,000 people turned up.
Amitabh stated that Main Azaad Hoon was a small and different film made on a small budget for a smaller audience. He always wanted to do a different film but was trapped with his commercial image. He wanted Hrishikesh Mukherjee to make a different film for him but Mukherjee's health started to fail him in the 1980s.
Whilst shooting a scene in Rajkot, shabana Azmi asked Amitabh Bachchan if he did anything when he was a member of Parliament. "Were you a catalyst in changing anything? Did you bring in any law? "Amitabh replied, "Once I went for dinner at Rashtrapati Bhavan, I saw everyone eating on plates that had the national emblem as part of the design. I did not like it. I raised the point in Parliament that you can't demean the national emblem, it's not right.' Soon after a law was passed that there would be no national emblem on the plates. Amitabh told Shabana that this thought was inspired by his father.
Amitabh invited Manmohan Desai to see the film in a special preview. Manmohan Desai came out not liking the film and gave several suggestions to fix. He advised Tinnu Anand that Amitabh's character should die. That is when the climax was changed .
