The good, the animation detail is amazing. Anime doesn't look this stylized and detailed anymore. That artistic level of cel animation is one of the main appeals of anime from that time, along with telling stories other visual mediums wouldn't do and being able to put in motion things that live action was unable to do back then from technical limitations or budget related. So it's very much a product of the time. The stories were haunting and very dark. They left me thinking about them long after watching. The bad though is the short length. Some stories could have had more time to develop adding more depth while others felt perfectly paced. The biggest problem though was the overall length of the ova series as a whole was too short. Especially ending on the origin story and almost taunting what else the story had to tell. The final ova is a cliffhanger, which was to be expected from a majority of 80's OVAs sadly. Luckily this was the first adaptation and not the end of the legacy. However for visual and artistic style, I personally wish the ova run had more to sink your teeth into. Yet I'm glad there's a taste of the creative vision displayed of this adaptation.
