Avis à la une
I saw this movie on TV in 1981 when I, like Kathy Miller, was 13 years old myself. Also like Kathy, we shared the same name and I loved cross-country running, so I could identify with her. This movie has such an impact on me that it still holds a special place in my heart, and I still remember it fondly 38 years later. No other made-for-TV movie has done that.
This is the first role I ever remember seeing a young Helen Hunt in. She did a great job.
"The Miracle Of Kathy Miller" is based on a true story. 13-year-old Kathy remained in a coma for seven weeks after being struck by a car. She lost half her body weight and almost all of her pre-accident abilities. Her recovery began in May 1977 and was only partially complete six months later, but it was enough to run and finish a very trying marathon.
This film is much better than most triumph-over-tragedy stuff at portraying the difficult process, for patient and family alike, of recovery from coma. Just two quibbles: The rehabilitation staff gets short shrift, and a school dance scene where Kathy's friends make fun of her rings false. Fortunately, Helen Hunt is excellent as the crippled but determined Kathy Miller.

I just want to say that when I was a young girl this movie inspired me to be a special education teacher. Kathy Miller proved that with determination, anything can be done. It should inspire everyone to reach for their dreams.
This is the first film I remember seeing Helen Hunt in. It really impressed me and I was not very surprised to see her appear again and again. She is a great actress and the seeds of that greatness can be seen in this film. I only wish it were available on video or DVD.
