One 26-Year-Old Disney Movie Is Overdue For A Sequel (& Why It Never Happened)
Image
Despite its flaws, Disney's Hercules is a classic that stands out for its unique animation style, contemporary storytelling, and exceptional casting choices. A planned sequel titled Hercules II: The Trojan War was canceled due to strategic changes in Disney's straight-to-video projects. A modern Hercules follow-up could be successful if it stays true to classic mythology while leveraging the strengths of the original movie and bringing back the compelling cast.

One twenty-six-year-old Disney movie has been long overdue for a sequel, but several factors have held it back from getting a follow-up. When it comes to sequels, Disney may not have an ideal track record where every follow-up outperforms its predecessors. However, time and again, the studio has delivered sequels that initially seemed unnecessary but gave audiences a lot more than they had initially anticipated.

For instance, consider Pixar’s Finding Dory. Despite premiering over a decade after Finding Nemo and...

Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest (1999)
Hulu New Releases: July 2021
Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest (1999)
It’s summer, everyone! And with its relatively sparse list of new releases for July 2021, Hulu seems to be subtlety imploring its subscribers to go outside.

Don’t get us wrong: Hulu’s library offerings get a big upgrade this month. July 1 sees the arrival of great films like Galaxy Quest, Fargo, and Caddyshack. Bill and Ted Face the Music premieres on July 2 and its followed by Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar on July 9. Not bad stuff! It’s just that, outside of the library titles, there isn’t much to go off of.

Hulu’s only major original release this month is the FX on Hulu production American Horror Stories on July 15. As its name implies, the show is a spinoff of American Horror Story and will feature self-contained horror episodes rather than a season-long arc. If you’ll allow this geriatric millennial to deploy one truly ancient meme: “Yo dawg,...

‘Hercules’ & ‘Hercules II’ Blu-ray Review
Many would say that physical formats are dying out, people are moving from DVD to digital, leaving Blu-ray to disc afficionados and home theatre enthusiasts. Yet, unbelievably, there is an ever-growing – some might say rabid – fanbase for obscure and long-forgotten movies on the format, so much so that distribution labels new and old are digging through the archives of cinema, trying to find that next big “cult” hit. Here in the UK we have the likes of Arrow Video, undoubtedly the pioneers of cult-movie Blu-ray releases on these shores; 88 Films, who joined the cult fray with their “Slasher Classics” and “Italian Collection” sub-labels; and Odeon Entertainment, who specialise in re-releasing classic British horror fare on Blu-ray.

But, I posit that there’s only one company in England Really trawling the true “cult” movie archives and that’s 101 Films. Action movies from the likes of Albert Pyun, horror starring killer dolls and Robert Englund,...
