Surrogate: Kestie Morassi horror film coming to Amazon and Tubi in September

Several months ago, we shared the teaser trailer for the supernatural horror film Surrogate, which stars Kestie Morassi in her return to the horror genre, sixteen years after she crossed paths with serial killer Mick Taylor in Wolf Creek (watch it Here). When we shared that trailer, which is embedded above, a release date hadn’t yet been announced for Surrogate. But now we know when we’re going to have the chance to see the movie. Surrogate will be available to watch – transactional VOD – through Amazon as of September 2nd. Starting September 16th, it will also be available on Tubi and GoogleTV, courtesy of Indie Rights.

David Willing makes his feature directorial debut with Surrogate, working from a screenplay he wrote with Beth King. The film finds Morassi in the role of Natalie Paxton,

a single mother and nurse who is rushed to hospital after suffering massive internal bleeding.

D.J. McPherson wins Truant Pictures screenplay comp
D.J. McPherson.

Victorian-based writer D.J. McPherson has won the Truant Pictures screenplay competition with her project His Name Is Jeremiah.

McPherson’s screenplay is said to have stood out to judges with for its “rich character work, strong on-the-page craft and a twisted plot that kept readers guessing until the very end.”

Set in a rural Australian town, His Name Is Jeremiah tells the story of a teen struggling to adjust after her estranged mother returns from jail. Feeling lost and alone, the teen develops a dangerous obsession with a missing boy, setting off a chain of events that unfold mysteries from the past and present.

McPherson has been awarded a $5,000 cash prize, a hot desk for one week at Truant Pictures’ office in Sydney, and mentorship from Truant’s development and production executives Toby Nalbandian and Greg Schmidt.

July 15th Blu-ray & DVD Releases Include Scanners, Deadly Eyes, Under the Skin
For the week of July 15th, we have giant rats, a handful of indie horror movies, a David Cronenberg classic and a killer Scarlett Johansson sci-fi thriller all coming our way on Blu-ray and DVD.

Criterion is releasing a brand new Blu-ray/DVD combo of the horror classic Scanners and Scream Factory is continuing their Summer of Fear with their latest release, Deadly Eyes, as well. Jonathan Glazer’s stunning sci-fi film Under the Skin is also getting its home release on Tuesday and, for all you shark movie fans out there, Anchor Bay’s put together a fun four pack of some recent shark-related titles perfect for a camp-tastic marathon one night.

Shannon Lee Tweed was born on March 10, 1957 in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Her star sign is Pisces.
