La compagnie des loups

Modifier
  • [last lines]
  • Rosaleen: Little girls, this seems to say / Never stop upon your way / Never trust a stranger friend / No-one knows how it will end / As you're pretty, so be wise / Wolves may lurk in every guise / Now as then, 'tis simple truth / Sweetest tongue has sharpest tooth.
  • Granny: Never stray from the path, never eat a windfall apple and never trust a man whose eyebrows meet in the middle.
  • Granny: Get ye back to Hell from whence ye came!
  • Huntsman: I don't come from Hell, I come from the forest.
  • Granny: What have you done with my granddaughter?
  • Huntsman: [with annoyance in his voice] Nothing she didn't want!
  • Rosaleen: They say the Prince of Darkness is a gentleman. And as it turns out, they're right; a fine gentleman.
  • Rosaleen: [hears wolves howl] Who's come to sing us carols, then?
  • Huntsman: Only my companions, darling. I love the company of wolves. Look out of the window and you'll see them.
  • Rosaleen: [does so] Poor creatures. It's freezing cold out there. No wonder they howl so.
  • Rosaleen: I'd never let a man strike me.
  • Granny: Oh, they're nice as pie until they've had their way with you. But once the bloom is gone... oh, the beast comes out.
  • Mother: You pay too much attention to your granny. She knows a lot but she doesn't know everything. And if there's a beast in men, it meets its match in women too.
  • Rosaleen: And then they lived happily ever after?
  • Granny: Indeed they did not!
  • Rosaleen: [after the huntsman turns into a wolf from being shot, tearfully] I'm sorry. I never knew a wolf could cry.
  • Old Priest: [to wolf-girl] Are you God's work, or the Devil's? Oh, what do I care whose work you are? You poor, silent creature.
  • [binds her wound]
  • Old Priest: It will heal. In time.
  • Rosaleen: And that's all I'll tell you, cause that's all I know.
  • Rosaleen: [pushes him away as they near a kiss] Jesus, what big teeth you have!
  • Huntsman: [smiles deviously] All the better to eat you with.
  • [Rosaleen shoots his arm with a rifle making him scream and writhe in pain turning into a wolf]
  • [repeated line]
  • Father: Seeing is believing.
  • [after the bride's husband decapitates the wolf's head]
  • Young Bride: [sees the head turn into a man's face] He looks just the same! As the day I married him!
  • [the bride's husband gets angry and slaps her]
  • Granny: Your only sister, all alone in the wood, and nobody there to save her. Poor little lamb.
  • Rosaleen: Why couldn't she save herself?
  • Granny: You don't know anything, you're only a child.
  • Witch Woman: So I wasn't good enough for you? I was once. Once upon a time! Don't you remember? Well, don't you? The wolves in the forest are more decent!
  • Rosaleen: [a lock of Granny's hair singes in the fireplace] Is that all you left of her? Your kind can't stomach hair, can you? Even if the worst wolves are hairy on the inside.
  • Huntsman: What do you know about my kind?
  • Rosaleen: [takes out a knife] My granny told me plenty!
  • [the huntsman restrains her]
  • Huntsman: Are you very much afraid?
  • Rosaleen: It wouldn't do me much good to be afraid, would it? My, what big eyes you have.
  • Huntsman: All the better to see you with.
  • Rosaleen: They say seeing is believing, but I'd never swear to it.
  • Village Children: Wolfie, Wolfie can't catch me! I've got a wife and Fa-mi-ly!
  • Young Groom: Where did these three spring from?
  • Young Bride: Out of my belly.
  • Young Groom: Your children. But not my children. Whore! Adulteress! You hoped I'd never come back!
  • Young Bride: I thought the wolves had taken ye!
  • Young Groom: Better a wolf than a whore! If I was a wolf once more I'd teach this whore a lesson!
  • Mother: [to the villagers about to shoot Rosaleen as a wolf] DON'T SHOOT! DON'T SHOOT!
  • Alice: [knocks on the door] They want you downstairs! You have to come out sometime; you can't sulk in there forever! Open the door! You've been at my lipstick too, haven't you? Pest!
  • [Rosaleen is shown tossing and turning in bed]
  • Alice: What makes you so different anyway, Buck-Teeth? Come on out, pest! It's not because I want you; it's because mummy wants you. Pest, pest, pest...
  • The Devil: Use it wisely. Waste not, want not.
  • Rosaleen: That's a horrible story. I didn't like it at all.
  • Amorous Boy's father: A daughter is one thing, a heifer is another!
