James Gunn Confirms DC Plans for the Big Screen Future: What Are They?
Image
Batman and Superman might not meet on the big screen anytime soon, but the two heroes form a significant part of James Gunn‘s plans at DC Studios. The writer-director recently appeared on the I Think You’re Overthinking It podcast to promote the upcoming Season 2 of Peacemaker, and he had some juicy updates to give.

The next movie we’re going to make is probably the follow-up to Superman… Hopefully, we’re making Batman 2 before that.

During the conversation, Gunn confirmed that the next two movies likely to enter production are The Batman Part 2 and a Superman follow-up movie, which the director recently confirmed he was writing. As a result,...

‘Sketch’ Is the “Demonic” Gateway Horror Movie Christian Moms Don’t Want Your Kids to See
Image
Satanic panic is alive and well in certain pockets of the country.

The Toxic Avenger‘s monster dong isn’t the only genre title provoking controversy, as Christian moms are rallying against the new gateway horror movie Sketch.

In the film, a young girl’s notebook falls into a mysterious pond, bringing her monstrous drawings to life. While navigating grief following the loss of her mother, the girl must band together with her family to save their town from the vibrant but dangerous creatures.

Sketch was produced independently but acquired by Angel Studios following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. No stranger to notoriety, Angel is the distributor behind 2023’s Sound of Freedom.

It seems that Angel’s catalog of overtly Christian-themed output set preconceived notions for some viewers with which Sketch — a monster adventure with no religions connotations — does not align.

Concerned parents, many of whom identify as Christian moms,...

The unknown trajectory of James Gunn's Dcu projects is starting to make us worry
Image
The original slate for James Gunn's Dcu was released to the public in a video in January 2023. In that video, Gunn himself gave a very minimal synopsis on each of the announced projects, which told of a very expansive list of various movies and TV shows of varying genres and characters. However, a little over a month ago, Gunn and Peter Safran gave an update on the future state of the Dcu, with little or no news on most of the projects announced in that initial video update.

So what's the deal? Is Gunn's Dcu in trouble before it even begins? Let's find out!

1. What projects were in the original Dcu slate?

James Gunn's initial announcement of his planned slate was titled Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, which included 11 projects: 5 movies and 6 TV shows. The five movies were Superman, The Authority, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, The Brave and the Bold,...

Before 'Superman' Takes Flight, One of the DC Hero's Most Bizarre Enemies Gets a New Comic Figure
Image
As the weather becomes warmer, DC fans are getting closer and closer to the release of James Gunn's Superman. The first cinematic entry in the co-head of DC Studios' new Dcu is set to be full of iconic Justice League members and infamous villainous rogues that’ll be looking to make David Corenswet’s Man of Steel bleed. Ahead of the film's summer release, companies like Funko and McFarlane Toys have been showing DC’s flagship hero in a yellow sun full of merchandise. Now, McFarlane Toys has just unveiled their latest comic figure tied to Superman’s rich legacy.

A part of McFarlane's popular DC Multiverse seven-inch-scale line, this new Gold Label comic DC Classic figure is of one of Superman’s most well-known villains, Bizarro. The antithesis of the Man of Steel is seen in the classic red-and-blue outfit with a twist. The “S” chest emblem is inverted,...

Daredevil: Born Again’s Original Plan For The Kingpin Was So Comic Inaccurate Even Vincent D’Onofrio Said ‘No’
Image
From losing its original showrunners to undergoing a complete overhaul in the wake of Marvel’s shift in approach to television, Daredevil: Born Again didn’t have the smoothest transition from its Netflix predecessor to the MCU. But one thing that remained constant throughout the change in creative leadership was Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin.

Having been attached to the character for almost a decade, heading into the MCU, the actor ensured that his depiction in the new MCU remained consistent with his original roots.

Elaborating on Vincent D’Onofrio, showrunner Dario Scardapane and executive producer Sana Amanat acknowledged the former’s input into the story, which contributed to the torture sequence in his basement. Amanat recalled D’Onofrio was adamant about “torturing him in his basement”, adding “He would keep the...

It's a Bird! It's a Plane! No, It's Superman's New Funko Pop Comic Cover!
Image
With just a few months until James Gunn's Superman flies into theaters, the merchandise game for the Man of Steel has been ramping up faster than a speeding bullet. Not just related to the new feature film either. DC has been celebrating the comic version of the hero with a whole new batch of action figures, comic book variant covers, and Funko Pops. The latter of which spent the first couple months of the year hard at work highlighting the different eras of everyone’s favorite red-and-blue boy scout. Now, the popular vinyl figure company has just unveiled their latest Pop for Superman.

A part of Funko's Pop Comic Cover line, their new Superman Pop is based on Jim Lee’s (Batman: Hush) cover for Superman # 204 from 2004. This was the start of the six-issue “For Tomorrow” arc that was written by Brian Azzarello. Alongside Lee, Scott Williams and Alex Sinclair...

'Daredevil: Born Again's Vincent D'Onofrio Wants to Play Swamp Thing
Image
As Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk, Vincent D'Onofrio seems to have checked off all the comic book movie dreams anyone could have. It seems though that he still has his eye on one upcoming Dcu movie role that he would seemingly love to add to his superhero resume. Responding to a question on X/Twitter, the actor, who is set to return as Kingpin in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, really wants to play Swamp Thing, and this isn’t the first time he’s pitched the idea.

It is impossible to think of anyone else playing Kingpin in Marvel’s Daredevil franchise, and although there was a time when it looked like his run as the ultra-violent crime boss – and now Mayor of New York – had come to an abrupt end when Netflix’s Marvel shows were shut down in 2018. However, after a grand return in Hawkeye, a big role in Echo,...

The Kingpin Vincent D'Onoforio Wants To Play Swamp Thing In The Dcu
Image
Vincent D'Onoforio is best known for his role as Kingpin within Marvel television. He's been the antithesis to Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in the Netflix series Daredevil and the Disney+ original series Daredevil: Born Again. D'Onofrio has also appeared as Kingpin in The Punisher, Hawkeye, and Echo. His acting as the Kingpin and the physical presence as well as the emotional depth he brings to the character has been praised by both fans and critics.

Today on X, Vincent D’Onoforio was asked if there was a character other than Wilson Fisk that he would like to play. He very simply replied “Swamp thing”.

Swamp thing

— Vincent D'Onofrio (@vincentdonofrio) April 10, 2025

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time D’Onoforio said he wants to play Swamp Thing. Back in 2024, he actually said, "These days, I don't know why...I don't if you guys are into DC like I am.

“Just stay in the MCU bro”: Dcu Fans Give Vincent D’Onofrio a Hard Pass After He Expresses Interest in Playing One of DC’s Strongest Heroes
Image
One of the most surprising yet fascinating revelations from Dcu’s initial announcement was Swamp Thing, which is set to be helmed by James Mangold, the mind behind the best X-Men movie to date.

As for potential contenders for the role, back in 2023, Vincent D’Onofrio entertained the prospect of headlining the live-action Alec Holland.

Although the release window for the movie still remains under the curtains, the Marvel star has once again ignited the discussion surrounding this potential casting, and some fans aren’t too thrilled by this prospect.

Fans are divided over Vincent D’Onofrio’s desire to headline Swamp Thing

Barring Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio’s performance in Netflix’s Daredevil was arguably the biggest highlight of the series, and it’s easy to see why many were thrilled by his jump to the mainline MCU.

Kingpin Actor Vincent D'Onofrio Reveals the Other Comic Book Character He'd Want to Play (& It's for Rival DC)
Image
Vincent D'Onofrio has reaffirmed his desire to join the DC Universe as a specific horror-tinged character. The Daredevil: Born Again star, who plays fan-favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe villain Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, recently shared that Swamp Thing would be the other character he'd like to play on the big or small screen.

Responding to a fan on X, D'Onofrio wrote that "Swamp Thing" would be the other character besides Wilson Fisk that he would want to play. This isn't the first time that the actor has expressed interest in playing Swamp Thing. Back in 2023, he retweeted a feature article from Cbr by Nicholas Brooks — which made the case for why the actor should jump from the MCU to the Dcu to play Alec Holland/Swamp Thing — and captioned it, "Love this." The retweet drove fans wild with speculation, especially once DC Studios head James Gunn liked D'Onofrio's post. A couple of days later,...

Vincent D’Onofrio reveals that there’s a DC character that he is interested in playing
Image
The nine episode first season of the Marvel series Daredevil: Born Again just made its premiere on Disney+ early last month (you can read our review Here), and the series revival has already closed in on the end of the run – but the good news is, season 2 already started filming at the end of February, so fans shouldn’t have to wait too long for the next batch of episodes.

Although it seems like Vincent D’Onofrio’s life is tied up in Hell’s Kitchen with Marvel, the actor revealed that he’s a crossover fan with DC Comics as he reveals that there’s another comic book character he’d like to play. On social media, a user named David Caneppa asked D’Onofrio what character outside of Wilson Fisk would he like to play. D’Onofrio answered simply, “Swamp thing.” DC attempted to adapt Swamp Thing into a series...

James Gunn And Peter Safran Plan To Release Three DC Movies A Year
Image
The Dcu will truly begin on July 11 when Superman flies into theaters. Although Creature Commandos, released back in December of 2024, was technically the first Dcu project, the new universe will truly begin with Superman, then continue with episodic projects like Lanterns on Max, the feature length film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which will feature Jason Momoa’s Lobo, and continue with very differently styled projects like Clayface.

The Dcu is just getting started. Gunn and Safran recently spoke with The Wrap to detail their plan as far as frequency of output goes. Their goal, at least right now, is to release, “two live-action films and one animated film per year,” says Peter Safran. He also mentioned that they want something similar for Max, Warner Bros’ streaming service, where they want to release two live action series and one animated series per year, a lofty goal for a new universe that...

Actors Who Were Almost Cast As Star Trek's Data Before Brent Spiner
Image
Before securing the role of Data on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," actor Brent Spiner was perhaps most widely recognized for his recurring role as Bob Wheeler on the sitcom "Night Court." He also had one-shot appearances on various other hit TV shows like "Tales from the Darkside," "The Paper Chase," and "Ryan's Hope." He also had a bit part in the excellent cult musical "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains" and was one of the background students in "Grease 2." Spiner had been acting in Broadway productions throughout the 1970s.

Data was a boon to his career, making him a household name, and giving him a role that he would continue to revisit for decades. Spiner has always felt ambivalent about Data, however, loving the fame, but resenting how he had been typecast. He has since referred to Data as a double-edged sword. That said, his post-"Star Trek...

Is James Gunn's Dcu Slate Making Some Big Changes?
Image
Let me start by quickly highlighting a piece I did back in December. In I Think James Gunn Needs to Slow Down Before He Repeats the Mistakes of the Dceu, my point was to bring to your attention how the new Dcu was already starting to replicate the old Dceu by announcing numerous movies that weren’t even on the Gods and Monsters slate — Teen Titans, Clayface, Sgt. Rock, Deathstroke and Bane, etc. Let’s now fast-forward to February 21. On this day, there was a small meeting between Gunn, Safran, and members of the press at the Warner Brothers lot in Burbank, California — lots of updates and lots of details on upcoming projects.

It sounds like Gods and Monsters is being changed to Monsters... and whatever else we can get quickly working on the side. Aside from Superman and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, everything else seems to either be up...

'That Doesn't Always Happen': David Corenswet Says Dcu Return After Superman Movie Isn't Guaranteed
Image
Supermanwill kick off a new franchise in Warner Bros.' DC Studios, which will include movies and TV shows in Dcu's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The upcoming franchise has unveiled some of the titles in the first part, but it's unclear how it will all blend together.

James Gunn, DC Studio's co-ceo alongside Peter Safran, wrote and directed the upcoming Superman, which will not mark the character's origin story, but will start the story right in the center of the action. This time, the character is played by David Corenswet, who will make his debut as the titular superhero this summer. In a new interview with Esquire España, Corenswet played coy when asked about Superman's future.

Taika Waititi Hasn't Turned in His 'Star Wars' Script, Says Lucasfilm
Image
Taika Waititi has been attached to an untitledStar Warsproject for several years now. A worldwide pandemic has come and gone, industry-wide strikes shutdown all Hollywood productions for the good part of a year, and Star Wars has failed to release one film since his hiring. Of course, Lucasfilm is largely to blame for that last part, especially since they have a revolving door of filmmakers walking in and out of the studio. However, it seems Waititi shares a good chunk of the blame for his Star Wars film remaining in the script phase and causing an indefinite delay.

During an interview with Deadline, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy discussed a variety of topics concerning the future of the Star Wars universe. Among the projects mentioned were Waititi's untitled film, which apparently does not have a script yet. It's a simple, yet frustrating reason, especially since he has been attached to the...

James Mangold Looks To Be Making His 'Dawn of the Jedi' Movie Before Dcu's 'Swamp Thing'

There have never been as many new Star Wars movies in production as there are right now, with several high-profile filmmakers all working on their own additions to the ultimate space adventure franchise. Among those is one being worked on by Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny helmer James Mangold, who appears to be so in demand that several big projects are on hold waiting for him. As Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recently revealed, this is something that she is happy to do, but that could be bad news for his Dcu Swamp Thing project.

Last week, during a DC update from James Gunn and Peter Safran, the latter revealed that the previously announced Swamp Thing movie is currently not going anywhere due to Mangold deciding to take on the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown. Now, Kennedy has suggested that once his promotion of that movie ahead of...

Ryan Gosling's Star Wars Movie Will Be Set Post-episode IX; New Details On Simon Kinberg's Trilogy Revealed
Image
At London's Star Wars Celebration in 2023, Lucasfilm announced three new Star Wars movies. One promised to explore the origin of the first Jedi, another looked set to assembled characters from the "Mandoverse," and then there was Daisy Ridley's return as Rey Skywalker.

They've yet to materialise, though The Mandalorian and Grogu is on the way and the rest remain in various stages of pre-production. However, Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy has pointed to the future of the franchise being primarily post-The Rise of Skywalker.

Talking to Deadline (via SFFGazette.com), the veteran producer said Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg's planned trilogy is "rolling fast and furiously" and "has gone exceptionally well."

She added, "He’s literally going to script as we speak. We’ll see something probably around June. We’re really excited about where that’s headed. This is the next iteration, the new saga that moves us into the future.

The Supergirl movie starring House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock is halfway done, and other DC news

The other day, James Gunn and Peter Safran — the two guys in charge of charting a new course for the DC Cinematic Universe — talked to reporters about their plans, and boy do they have them. Let's run down some of the things they said:

This new Dcu will officially launch with Superman, which will hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Gunn and Safran are cutting together a new trailer now as well as holding test screenings. They are psyched. “I’ve wanted to make a Superman movie since 1978 and the Superman film that James has made is exactly the one that teenage Peter Safran has been waiting for,” Safran said. After that, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will release on June 26, 2026. James Gunn and Peter Safran Say 'Swamp Thing' Could Be Delayed While Waiting of James Mangold

James Gunn and Peter Safran’s joint vision for the Dcu took another step forward this week, with the pair laying out revised plans for the franchise’s immediate and long-term future. Among the many updates, Swamp Thing fans were given some bittersweet news about the horror-orientated movie’s production, which seems to be frustratingly stalled…but seemingly for a good reason.

When Gunn originally announced the Dcu’s first wave of projects, it included some surprising entries and the promise of more to come. Now, two years on, the Dcu is ready to kick off its live-action account with this summer’s Superman, but there have been some changes to other projects, as the ever-evolving world of comic book movies has forced Gunn and Safran to rework their initial slate.

DC Studios Rejig Release Slate As James Gunn Gives Updates On Batman, Teen Titans, Clayface And More

Time flies when you're having fun — and when you're trying to build a cinematic universe, too. Somehow, it's already been two years since DC Studios head honchos James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed the roadmap for their newly christened Dcu, announcing a wildly ambitious "Gods And Monsters" first phase comprising 10 projects. Now, as the first major movie from that slate, Gunn's own Superman, gets ready to take flight this July, Gunn and Safran have taken some time to give fans an update on their ever-evolving future plans — including Batman: The Brave And The Bold, a proposed live-action Teen Titans movie, Clayface, and much more besides.

At a gathering of the press last Friday, Gunn and Safran held court to talk films and TV shows that are in production, that need more time, and that are in the early stages of development. On the in production front, as of right...

DC Studios Paints A Chaotic Picture In Recent News, But There's An Order To It
Image
There has been a lot of news from DC Studios in the past several days. Some of it has been great, some of it has been less than great, and some of it is somewhere in the No Man’s Land of interpretation and opinion that lies between the two. Some of it is a bit concerning when it comes to how this universe is coming together. Ideally, this universe will mimic what happens in the comics with standalone stories, crossovers, and huge Crisis style events. We don’t want a carbon copy of the MCU, but they are both based in comic books.

Let’s quickly go over some of the news recently broken.

Matt Reeves still hasn’t finished the script for The Batman which isn’t entirely surprising considering the huge delay. Gunn said it’s “not the plan” to have Pattinson become the Dcu’s Dark Knight,...

James Gunn Clarifies Reports of Daniel Craig Exiting DC's Sgt. Rock Movie
Image
DC Studios has confirmed that a Sgt. Rock movie is in the works for the DC Universe. The confirmation came after studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran were asked about Daniel Craig's departure from the World War II movie.

Per Variety, Gunn and Safran recently held a press event for DC Studios' upcoming film and television slate. When the topic of Craig exiting Sgt. Rock came up; Safran clarified that the James Bond actor "was never attached" to the movie, so he couldn't have dropped out. The DC head went on to explain that the actor had merely been floated as a possible candidate for the role due to having just appeared in Sgt. Rock director Luca Guadagnino's previous film, Queer. "But, you know, we never met with Daniel. He was just an idea," Safran said, with Gunn adding, "Well, we never really even announced Sgt. Rock.

'A Weird Dynamic': James Gunn Opens Up About the Internet's Reaction to His Viral Photo With Zack Snyder
Image
James Gunn and Zack Snyder have both helmed superhero movies that have gathered many fans. Although in real life the two filmmakers are friends, the internet has often believed the two are enemies and is constantly pitting them against each other.

Snyder helmed several entries in the DC Extended Universe, and Gunn is now rebooting the entire universe without using the former's work as canon. Both have dedicated fans ready to defend their favorites, although there is no real feud between the two auteurs. After posing together for a viral photo, Gunn revealed the reason why he decided to share the photo in a new interview with Variety.

What’s the Latest on the Dcu? James Gunn and Peter Safran Fill Us In
Image
It’s been just over two years since James Gunn and Peter Safran mapped out their initial slate of projects for DC Studios and what would be the newly revamped Dcu, a new interconnected universe of superhero movies and films based on DC characters and kicking off in earnest with Gunn’s “Superman” arriving this summer.

So where do they stand? In a press event last week on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, Gunn and Safran held court with journalists about all they had cooking, the stuff that’s moving forward and the stuff that has lost the wind in its sails or has hit a snag. That included everything from details on the studio’s Batman films — both the Dcu film “The Brave and the Bold” and updates on the non-canon “The Batman 2” from Matt Reeves — as well as a potential “Teen Titans” movie and the update...

Teen Titans Movie Moving Forward But The Authority, Swamp Thing, And More Have All Been Put On Hold
Image
At the end of January 2023, DC Studios gathered select members of the press and announced plans for a Dcu slate dubbed "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters." Many fans pointed out the similarities to Warner Bros.'s ill-fated 11-movie Dceu slate reveal in 2014 and, unfortunately, some of these Dcu projects aren't moving along as well as hoped.

Talking to press, co-ceo Peter Safran said of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker spin-off Waller, "We’ve taken a couple of cracks at it but still haven’t been able land. Waller has been a bumpy road."

The Authority, meanwhile, is "not the furthest along" according to James Gunn and, subsequently, "hasn't been made much [of] a priority." Safran explained, "It is a very big movie, if you’re going to do it properly. Some of the story elements perhaps that are in Superman and some of the other films we fast-tracked, step a little on the Authority.

Alan Moore
Did Alan Moore reuse a plot line from Swamp Thing for Watchmen?
Alan Moore
Alan Moore is considered to be one of the best comic writers of all time, with most of his work being among some of the greatest comics to have ever been written. His most acclaimed work is easily the 12-issue series Watchmen, with artist Dave Gibbons, which has been adapted numerous times on film and television and is considered one of the greatest pieces of literature, not just comics.

That's all well and good, but what if I were to tell you that there's a portion of Watchmen that bears striking similarities to one of his earlier works in regard to his character of Doctor Manhattan? Buckle in folks, as we explore the story that could've inspired Dr. Manhattan's solo origin issue from the original Watchmen run.

‘Consummate Filmmaker’: James Gunn Shares Sweet Tribute to Zack Snyder in New Photo
Image
The DC comics have spawned so many great stories and characters, and some of them got the chance to be adapted on the big and small screen. Zack Snyder was among the first filmmakers to tackle several projects in the DC Extended Universe but, as his time with the studio was done, James Gunn will take over the characters in the upcoming DC Universe.

The conversation about whose universe was better is inevitable, as Snyder has a series of devoted fans set to praise him, while Gunn has yet to impress since he's at the beginning of his long journey. However, over the years, the two filmmakers have often praised each other's work. Now, Gunn has proven the two are close in real life, as well, with a photo on Threads that's going viral on social media.

“Largely impotent American liberal fantasy”: Despite Creating V for Vendetta, Alan Moore Will Never Respect the $134M Natalie Portman Cult-Hit
Image
Alan Moore has been the genius behind some of the greatest works of fiction: Doctor Who, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Batman: The Killing Joke, Swamp Thing, Constantine, and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen to name a few. His essential grasp over the grimdark, dysfunctional reality of this world has allowed him to craft some of the most exceptional and exquisite pieces of literature.

V for Vendetta (2005) [Credit: Warner Bros.]

However, as is the case with most works of genius, such novels and comics have either been deemed completely unadaptable, too dense and difficult to convert into live-action, or condensed and edited for the audience’s clarity. When it comes to the latter, the original source text is often disregarded and changed in certain parts to meet the film’s vision – which, in turn, defeats the purpose of the original story.

V for Vendetta also suffered through a somewhat similar circumstance when...

Man-Thing vs. Swamp Thing: Who would win a fight?
Thing in La famille Addams (1964)
Marvel and DC are world-renowned for their endless stream of superhero characters, but if we're being honest, the more supernatural and horror sides of both comic book companies aren't as well-loved or even well-known by mainstream audiences, which just shouldn't be!

Two characters in particular should be counted among some of the best characters within each of their respective companies, and they are the macabre Man-Thing from Marvel and the muck-encrusted mockery of a man, Swamp Thing from DC! Both characters are alike in their own way, but they also have their own traits that make them uniquely formidable. Their similarities mean that DC and Marvel fans have compared them over the years, wondering which of the two entities would win.

Let's veg out together to see who between these two guardians of the swamp would come out on top!

'1 of My Greatest Career Dreams': Acclaimed DC Actor Wants to Play Joker (And Fans Are All For It)
Image
With the Dcu introducing an all-new continuity based on DC characters, it's probably just a matter of time before the next version of the Clown Prince of Crime is introduced. When the time comes to cast the role of the Joker, David Dastmalchian is hoping to be considered.

Dastmalchian, who recently impressed with his starring role in the hit horror film Late Night with the Devil, commented on the possibility of playing the Joker in a new chat with Collider at the Saturn Awards. He admitted he would "love" to play the iconic supervillain, though that may not be a major surprise, given how much of a comic book fan the actor really is. Dastmalchian went on to describe the potential casting as one of his biggest "career dreams," right up there with becoming a James Bond adversary. Many fans reacting to the news on social media have responded well to the casting,...

Image
This past November, it was announced that Ian Ward and Aunt Jordan had returned to The Young and the Restless. However, fans are starting to wonder if Ian, and his actor Ray Wise, could be leaving Genoa City sometime soon. There’s also the discussion on if Ian’s possible departure could be a permanent one.

“I’m too old for this sh*t”: Guillermo Del Toro’s Canceled DC Movie, if Revived, Can Not Only Decimate the Box Office but Also Potentially Win Multiple Oscars
Image
Since the controversial fall of the Dceu regime, the remainder of the projects under development receded back into the shadows. Among the many whose names stuck out is Justice League Dark, a film that once sought out the great Mexican auteur Guillermo del Toro as its director. But it wasn’t meant to be.

Justice League Dark (2017) [Credit: Warner Bros. Home Entertainment]

Over time, and with a mighty push from Black Adam, the Dceu was officially dismantled in October 2022. As such, the Guillermo del Toro project fell through as well despite the master of horror devoting his career to bringing such characters as Swamp Thing and Etrigan the Demon to life.

Now, under the light of the new DC leadership, wandering minds cannot help but think of what greatness could be accomplished if only the suits and the execs had put studio politics aside to make one of the greatest movies happen.

Harley Quinn season 5 episode 3 preview, how to watch, and more
Image
The second episode of Harley Quinn season 5 showed us how Pamela Isley became Poison Ivy. Like most villain origins, it started with tragedy and the betrayal of a loved one. In Ivy’s case, it was by her professor and lover, Jason Woodrue. This comes into play after Lena Luthor, Lex’s sister, tells Ivy that they’ll work together.

Lena may not have known about their past, but she could learn during episode 3. Ivy made Woodrue breathe the same fumes that almost killed her. Instead of dying, Woodrue has become the Floronic Man. It'll be hard to hide when you look like a dime-store version of Swamp Thing.

Yes, becoming the Floronic Man is an obvious way to get caught for attempted murder. However, there are a couple of things to take into account. First, and most important, Jason Woodrue will want the credit for what’s happened to...

Good News For James Mangold's Star Wars: Dawn Of The Jedi May Be Bad News For DC Studios' Swamp Thing
Image
It's been almost two years since Star Wars Celebration was held in London, England. At the event, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Logan director James Mangold revealed his plans to head into a Galaxy Far, Far Away for a story about the First Jedi.

While we know this untitled Star Wars movie - typically referred to as "Dawn of the Jedi" - will be set roughly 25,000 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, few updates have been shared since. That's likely because it's had to compete with A Complete Unknown for the filmmaker's attention.

Today, we have an update on Mangold's Star Wars plans (via SFFGazette.com). It's said that the current idea is for the movie to begin shooting in December. The script, written by Mangold and Andor's Beau Willimon, will be completed by the summer and it's then casting will begin.

That's a big...

James Gunn Establishes New DC Universe Canon, Calls Previous Works ‘Imperfect Memory’
James Gunn
DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn has clarified the complex canonical status of his previous DC projects, establishing that only content starting with the animated series “Creature Commandos” will be considered “pure canon” in the new DC Universe (Dcu).

In a recent statement on Bluesky, Gunn addressed mounting questions about continuity in the Dcu, particularly regarding his earlier works “The Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker.” The filmmaker introduced a nuanced approach to canon, describing his 2021 film “The Suicide Squad” as an “imperfect memory” while noting that “Peacemaker” remains “almost entirely consistent” with the new universe’s canon, barring its Justice League connections.

“Short answer: Only Creature Commandos forward is pure canon,” Gunn explained. To illustrate this point, he referenced a specific plot element: “Rick Flag Jr was killed because we heard Rick Flag Sr talking about it in Creature Commandos, not because we saw it in The Suicide Squad.”

Long answer: Only...

James Gunn Says Dcu Will Have a Different Intro Than 'Elseworlds' Projects
Image
The Dcu is officially set to launch later this summer with James Gunn's Superman, the highly anticipated reboot of the iconic character that is already breaking records. However, that doesn't mean upcoming DC projects will be relegated to one cinematic universe. Matt Reeves' epic crime saga, featuring The Batman, remains outside of the Dcu, despite speculation stating otherwise. And to curb any potential confusion from audiences, the co-head of DC Studios has confirmed that Elseworld spinoffs will have a distinct intro sequence.

Gunn went to Threads to answer a fan's question as to why HBO's The Penguin and the animated Harley Quinn series on Max does not include the DC Studios logo intro. While the new intro sequence can be seen in Creature Commandos, it is absent in the two aforementioned shows. The filmmaker confirms that due to both Penguin and Harley Quinn being set outside the Dcu, the...
