From the currently playing Their Finest to the likes of Bowfinger and Boogie Nights, we salute the movies about making movies...

If you haven't caught up yet, Their Finest is currently playing in UK cinemas and it's a gorgeous little love letter to perseverance through storytelling, set against the backdrop of a film production office at the British Ministry of Information during the Second World War. Based on Lissa Evans' novel, Gemma Arterton and Bill Nighy play characters whose access to the film industry has been contingent on the global crisis that takes other young men away from such trifling matters, and it's a real joy to watch.

Among other things, the film got us thinking about other films about making films. We're not talking about documentaries, even though Hearts Of Darkness, the documentary about the making of Apocalypse Now, may be the greatest film about...

CBS is enlisting MacGyver to help fortify its 2016-2017 schedule.

The much-hyped reboot was one of four dramas the Eye network ordered to series on Friday, joining Jerry Bruckheimer’s Training Day remake, the Michael Weatherly-fronted Bull, and Jason Katims’ medical entry Pure Genius (fka Bunker Hill).

On the comedy side, CBS has Ok’d Joel McHale’s workplace sitcom The Great Indoors and Matt LeBlanc’s family satire Man With a Plan (fka I’m Not Your Friend). Speaking of the latter, The Office‘s Jenna Fischer — who was set to play LeBlanc’s wife — has exited the project for creative reasons.

Horror king Wes Craven died Sunday, August 30 after a battle with brain cancer. He was 76.

Craven brought Freddy Krueger to life in "Nightmare on Elm Street," found a new audience with the "Scream" franchise, and also gave us "The Last House on the Left" and "The Hills Have Eyes," among others.

He helped launch or re-launch the careers of many Hollywood stars, and influenced countless others, and several celebrities paid tribute to the film legend after his passing:

Our journey through the lesser-known films of the 2000s continues. This week, it's 2003...

It was the year that Arnold Schwarzenegger went from Terminator actor to Governor of California, and when The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King dominated the global box office with a gross of more than $1bn. 2003 was also the year the Wachowskis' Matrix trilogy thundered to a close, the year Freddy Krueger clashed with Jason Voorhees in, er, Freddy Vs Jason, and the year Pixar scored another hit with Finding Nemo.

But as you've probably gathered by now, 2003 was also a year of quite brilliant, less lucrative films. The movies we've included in this week's list were chosen for a variety of reasons - some were ignored in cinemas, while others were harshly treated by critics. Some were modestly popular or given awards on release,...

Not all great cinema stars have the most auspicious beginnings to their lives in celluloid. Some start in commercials, TV, bit parts, background work. Hell, a few even dabble in porn (we're looking at you, Sylvester Stallone).

Ground zero for acting talent, more often than not, is the horror genre. This being Halloween season, we decided to highlight a few mega-talents who jumpstarted their careers in much the same way they entered the world: naked, screaming and covered in blood.

George Clooney, 'Return to Horror High' (1987)

It took the "Ides of March" actor-director a solid decade in show business before he launched into superstardom as Dr. Doug Ross on "ER." Good ol' Gorgeous George may have paid his dues at the school of hard knocks, but he earned his diploma from "Horror High" playing an actor who gets killed by a serial killer while filming a movie about that killer.

After having previously tackled the cinematic output of Wes Craven three times in the past year over on my personal blog (not including my formal Scream 4 review for this very site), I figured that I was all but done talking about my favourite horror movie director of all time. I was content that I had said all that needed to be said about his career, his hits, his misses, and his most iconic films.

Then I was approached with the idea of revisiting the Scream films in time for Halloween. Just like Craven was hesitant to take on the first Scream film because he was burnt out on horror, I had to think twice about whether I wanted to delve back into a topic I had already spent far too much time on.

After watching all four Scream films again on Blu-ray, I find it a bit strange that...

With 2010 now behind us, we can look back at the year in movies…and every year since Edison invented a camera and filmed his assistant sneezing, there have been a fair share of cinematic stink-bombs. In fact, this year appears to have been a bumper crop for crap.

Although the official announcement of Razzie (razzies.com) nominations for 2010 won't be released until later this month, a list of likely candidates is already available on their website, though with all due respect to the Razzies, we'd add the caveat that not all the films listed below are complete stinkers.

Where available, we've added Rotten Tomatoes critics' consensus underneath for your convenience and/or edification—so you might want to bookmark this page on your mobile device as a heads-up of what to avoid the next time you find yourself at the video rental store.

This year, the worstiest of the worst according to razzies.

Yes, A Nightmare Elm Street is the new, big movie we talked about. Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger scared up some dollars at the box office. We also talked about Brendan Fraser’s Furry Vengeance and we already gave It’s Complicated away so don’t email in about that.

More important than all of that? I met Henry Winkler. No, I won’t refer to him as the Fonz. Because he’s much more than that. Winkler came up to me to talk about A Prophet. We both loved it. I gave him another recommendation – The Secret in Their Eyes and then I told him how I’ve heard he’s the nicest guy in Hollywood. After a little more talking, I decided those rumors were true.

I also met Seth Aaron, the most recent “Project Runway” winner. Yes, I watch the show, and not totally because my wife does.

Fangoria #289 has been making it's way into subscriber mailboxes this week (official street date is December 15), and as usual that means it's time to gaze into the crystal ball of fear and look ahead into the future. On-stands January 19th is Fangoria #290, a howlingly-good issue featuring a cover shot of Benicio Del Toro as The Wolfman.

Obnoxious drag queens, sleepy hustlers, washed-up starlets, effeminate vampires, and sickly junkies were among the miscreants and lowlifes that inhabited a series of films made in the 60’s and 70’s under the banner of the Andy Warhol “Factory” label. Though the eccentric artist himself had virtually no creative input, Andy Warhol’S Flesh (1968), Andy Warhol’S Trash (1970), and Andy Warhol’S Heat (1972) though low-budget and mostly improvised, were milestones in underground independent cinema. The final film made under the Warhol banner was 1977’s Andy Warhol’S Bad, one of the most shocking black comedies of the 1970’s. Andy Warhol’S Bad differs from the earlier Warhol films because of its higher production values (a 1.5 million dollar budget) and studio-friendly casting, but retains its sense of underground cred thanks to a demented script by Pat Hackett and George Abagnalo that breaks many taboos of the time to create a hilarious deadpan satire.

Man, where does time go?

Hard to believe that The Dark Knight is now a distant memory (well, I can still hear the cash registers ringing).

Leonardo DiCaprio entering The Twilight Zone, the return of Freddie Kruger in A Nightmare on Elm Street, MGM turn on the television and revisit Poltergeist and The Wolfman goes live.

1. Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way have joined forces with Warner Brothers to try and buy the rights to the Rod Serling scripted episodes of The Twilight Zone in an attempt to get a feature off the ground.
