Have plane, will travel.

Excellent depiction of the feelings of a man driven to fly, regardless of where, what or who for. "How" is a challenge too, at times. Amazing flight from Dutch Antilles to Holland without refuelling. Love interest on the side.Beautiful Caribbean backdrops to offset classic DC3.

An excellent masterpiece about a man who loves to fly

Being a pilot myself for more than 33 years, I must say that I never before enjoyed a movie with this explicit detail of profession, as the main actor performed; my sincere compliments to Kees Brusse!

For myself, it took me 32 years to rediscover this film, after its initial broadcasting in 1974. I never forgot it and now it is available again!

Not only for pilots but for all DC-3 enthusiasts; this film is a real MUST HAVE!

Spell the word that all pilots and people interested in flying may see this movie! Dr. Volker Klein

the lone flying cowboy

It took me more than 30 years to at least find a n y information about this film. I saw this film when I was a kid and sneaked into the TV room without my parents knowing I was awake. So my souvenir of the film is an emotionally mixed one.(I enjoyed the film but was afraid that my parents found out I was not in bed...) This is so long ago that I have difficulties remembering the plot exactly. It is about a man who's passion is to fly his old DC3 Dakota at whatever the costs against whatever the obstacles in his way may be. I remember a non stop journey from the west Indies(?) to Europe without refueling. Flying has always been a dream to me and still is. This film is one of the visions of all the lonely children of Icarus. I would love to see it on DVD, preferably in English or German...

An underrated masterpiece!

2007-02-23 Hi! I've had this fantastic (and I am sure, underrated movie)since around 1987-1989 I guess, as I then had the pleasure to tape it through FilmNet (at the time...through TNT...now TCM) >with Swedish subtitles<. I like this very much, an excellent flick, not least for us who love the beautiful old birds, like here, the DC-3/Dakota (they certainly don't make 'em like that anymore - period) Kees Brusse is perfect in his part as the loner, to his Dakota dedicated flier. The amazing solo flight, without landing for refueling is another thing, from the West Indies to Holland, partly with just one engine. This has to be viewed, a wonderful and slow paced flick. Of course part of the beauty, the scenery from the Netherlands Antilles beside the great shots of the bird itself. Shot in Anamorphic Widescreen. H I G H L Y recommended. Convinced? A copy of mine can be discussed.

Good attention to detail

I'm not a pilot and have little knowledge of DC3s, but I enjoyed the attention to detail of the aircraft, its characteristics, and flying in this movie. I also remember 1974 well and know the Caribbean. To me this was a totally believable story and the aging pilot was a sympathetic character. That is really all I have to say, but for some daft reason IMDb apparently requires movie reviews to be at least 10 lines long, so the rest of this is just fluff to make up the required volume. Actually I found the movie on Amazon Prime and I'm glad I clicked on it and watched it (twice). I suppose most, if not all, of the actors are dead now. Did anyone actually ever fly from the Duch Antilles to Holland nonstop in a DC-3?
