Confessions from the David Galaxy Affair

The dullest confession you'll ever hear!

Husband and wife acting team Alan Lake and Diana Dors sink to the lowest point of their respective careers in this tedious British sex comedy. The long, drawn-out plot fails to hold the attention and Lake's performance, as sex-obsessed astrologer David Galaxy, is annoying and virtually unwatchable, (why any woman would fall for his hackneyed chat-up lines is anyone's guess). Despite a fairly interesting role as a wealthy businesswoman, Dors doesn't fair much better either. The movie's one saving grace is a brief turn fom 70's sex bomb Mary Millington, playing one of Galaxy's numerous sexual 'conquests'. Mary's performance is funny and mesmerizing but even she fails to save a pitiful film.

Not quite as bad as made out

This was made at a time when attendance at cinemas was plummeting and there was a duopoly of Rank and ABC.They were both desperate for British films to fulfil their quota requirements that they would show feeble sex comedies like this. There is the pleasure of spotting British character actors, such as Ballard Berkeley, taking the money and running.

Confessions from the David Galaxy Affair

Alan Lake who was of gypsy heritage was a brooding actor who in real life had to battle a few demons. He always gave a committed performance.

Lake was also married to Diana Dors, who appears in this movie. He died shortly after Dors death.

Lake must have needed the money as well as exercise his comedy shops. Only the script is weak and given the notoriety of the movie. This is softcore stuff with not much of Mary Millington.

David Galaxy (Alan Lake) is a playboy astrologer who is wanted by the police for a heist that took place five years earlier.

Chief Inspector Evans (Glynn Edwards) is onto Galaxy, especially as he cannot provide an alibi for the day the heist in question. (It was 5 years ago!)

While looking for his mates to provide Galaxy with a false alibi. He is challenged to satisfy Millie (Mary Millington) who has never experienced an orgasm.

Some of the humour is very dated and very little is funny. There is some nudity and a pretty mainstream cast that includes Kenny Lynch and Bernie Winters.

Awful misguided sex comedy drama

Confessions from the David galaxy affair released in 1979 marked the end of a genre which was reaching the end of it's cycle involving some of the brightest and best British actors of the 1970s and 1980s slumming it for quick pay cheque.

The Film stars Alan lake a character actor he was very lucky to be able to make a living out of playing characters with eccentric quirks of personality.

He plays David galaxy a petty criminal who can tell his customers astrological sign as quickly as he can bed them. One day David gets a knock at his flat by two policeman played by Glynn Edwards and John Moulder Brown informing him they're reopening a case which involved a robbery and he was seen by a witness on the day of the crime participating in it.

After the success Sullivan achieved with his 1978 pseudo crime thriller ( the playbirds), you would've thought lightning would strike twice with Confessions from the David galaxy affair.

The result is a poor mix of sex not to mention comedy and it's left with Alan lake to carry the film unfortunately it's a hammy and overblown performance mugging at the slightest opportunity doing a series of awful impressions that wouldn't cut muster on a variety show.

The film is littered as usual with a first rate cast: Anthony Booth is appealing as David's pal Steve and so Is Kenny Lynch who was a pop musician in the 50s and 60s. Glynn Edwards a few months down the line from his starring role in the comedy drama Minder gives a restrained and great performance as the Inspector tasked with investigating the case.

Overall: If the script and plotting had been worked upon and less emphasis on the crime story as well as the distasteful subplot involving one of his conquests ' Mary Millington' this could've been a very watchable crime caper. But with it being a film sold on Mary's name the punters who queued up to watch this at the time would've expected a full on sex romp.

Awful film but with moments of inspiration should've better considering the level of talent involved.
