Peggy Ann Garner's character was based on actress Madeline Sherwood Rev Mother on "The Flying Nun." Her performance was so real and sincere that you felt like you were right there with her. This was one of the last TV movie series that Peggy starred in before retiring.
A made for TV movie directed by Paul Wendkos, this film addresses some of the taboos, fallacies and urban legends of psychotherapy.
Unfortunately, it is not accurate in that the patient as victim is put under hypnosis, then gradually manipulated into undressing. It was based on a true story.
In reality these true crime stories are few and far between. Most esteemed psychoanalysts would never react this way, they have to follow a Canon of Ethics.
Performance-wise, Rip Torn is good here as lecherous doctor. Lesley-Ann Warren as vulnerable patient. Worth watching for fiction, not fact. 7/10.
