Treat for 70s fans

If you liked the styles of the 70s, you'll love Breaker Breaker. Check out the blown-dry hairdos, the "knotty pine" paneling, the Coors beers ... ahhh. This movie must have marked the peak and beginning of the decline of the CB fad.

Oh, plot, acting etc? *giggle* As if!

Got Your Ears On, Chuck's In Trouble

Breaker! Breaker! has Chuck Norris as a truck driver and a karate master, talk about juggling two disparate careers. He gives a load he can't deliver to his younger brother Michael Augenstein and then when the young man doesn't show up, Chuck goes looking for him.

What young Augenstein has got himself into is a speed-trap run by Judge George Murdock who comes from the Roy Bean school of jurisprudence. Of course Norris deals with matters in the usual Chuck Norris way and when he gets in trouble, the call goes out over the CB for all the truckers to come and help their good buddy. This speed-trap known as Texas City has a bad reputation and the drivers are only too happy to help a pal.

Chuck's of course quite a bit younger and with no facial hair in this one. He's got the tight lipped look of a man who realizes the Academy won't be looking at this gobbler. George Murdock is overacting outrageously as the Judge Roy Bean wannabe.

This one is strictly for the fans of Chuck Norris.

So bad it's funny.

Save some very early Norris, "Breaker, Breaker" has nothing to offer which can't be found ten fold better on any broadcast channel. A pathetic attempt at film making, this is one of the worst films I have ever seen. In spite of that, I did watch it, thumbing the fast forward button, because the acting was so awful it was comical. Of course, the film is supposed to be an action/drama but turned out as a treatise on how NOT to make a movie. Everything which could be wrong with film is on screen in this "dog". If you happen across it, give it a peek. It's so bad, it's funny.

Broken! Broken!

Ever want to see a movie where Chuck Norris takes the bad guys aside and calmly discusses with them the errors of their ways until they see the light and, with tears in their eyes, they shake hands, right the wrongs of the world together in peace and harmony and forever end the reign of evil in the world?

Well, forget it, Jocko.

"Breaker! Breaker!" instead goes right for the drop-kick as our truck-drivin' man Chuck steers his big rig into the small backwoods town where his little brother is being held by a corrupt judge and his even-more corrupt law-men.

Chuck karate kicks, chops, slices, juliennes and crinkle-cuts every baddie in sight until not an evil-doer dares raise his head. A lot of fights are in slow-motion, for excitement purposes, but just help pad out the movie to fill 86 minutes.

And there's a lot of fights here, which leave just about 15 minutes for plot development...and that's about all the plot you get. But what did you expect: calm discussion?

One star for "Breaker! Breaker!"; and that's a small 10-4, good buddy.

" When Lawmen break the law, then there is no Law "

Chuck Norris became a American Icon when he reached the top of the Martial Arts world. Winning nearly every competition from East to the West coast, his fame proceeded him into films. There he made several low budget movies which led to his most memorable confrontation with the legendary Bruce Lee. In this film called " Breaker, Breaker " Norris plays John Dawes who's younger brother Billy (Michael Augenstein) a trucker has been arrested, jailed, kidnapped and presumed killed, at the whim of corrupt Judge Joshua Trimmings (George Murdock). The small town sheriff works with the judge to waylay Dawes as he enters the town. Throughout the film one can see Norris in action as he takes on the Sheriff and his henchmen and literally dusts' them. Though there is much to be said for the Martial artist, except for his talent, Norris's acting as well as the rest of the cast is stiff, boring and cardboard. The plot is simple as is the entire premise. Still if you're a Norris fan, this is one for you. If not you can do with this film as the title suggest. **

decent enough Chuck Norris vehicle

for a Chuck Norris film, this one isn't that bad.it's one of this earlier ones.it's not his best by any means.but it is a lot of fun to watch.the plot is nothing new.corrupt town town, run by a corrupt judge and corrupt police.older brother sets out to find younger brother who disappears on his first solo trucking run.finds out out he may be somewhere in the corrupt town, either dead or alive.older brother sets out to rescue younger brother and becomes a one man wrecking crew.that's the synopsis in a nutshell.obviously there's lots of martial arts action.and it's actually pretty well done.there aren't a lot of flashy camera tricks to make it look fancy.the acting is adequate for this genre.i've seen much worse in my time.for me,Breaker! Breaker! is a 6/10

Wow, this Chuck Norris movie really has a low score.

I can not believe this movie has such a low score, I did not think it was all that great, but I thought it was rather watchable. It went by fairly quickly, but lets just say there were parts that were disappointing. All through the movie they seemed to be building a somewhat great final showdown between Chuck and some awesome fighter, but that fight never materialized. In fact, at the beginning of the movie when they were talking about their town finally being recognized as a town they mentioned someone that was supposedly integral in the founding of the town and I thought this unseen character would be the one to have a showdown with Chuck, but instead it seemed to be some random guy. The story is a bit like a couple of other movies about small towns and dudes who come into these towns and kick butt because the small town is usually full of corruption. Here I think Chuck's brother is a truck driver who gets pulled over and ends up being taken prisoner in this town so Chuck has to come into town and rescue him. He befriends a female in town during his butt kicking exploits. This film is a bit like the movie "Ruckus", though I would say that film is the superior movie even though this one has Chuck Norris in it and that one did not.

Early Chuck Norris butt kicker

Breaker! Breaker! is not the the sort of movie that would ever be eligible for any kind of rewards consideration, but for what it is, it succeeds on its own merits. Breaker! Breaker! is a CB/ redneck trucker karate movie that is a good vehicle for Chuck Norris to show his fighting skills in his 1st leading role. Obviously riding the on the popularity of Smokey And The Bandit, The Dukes Of Hazard and Convoy. This drive in action movie is good entertainment for sure with awesomely bad acting, 70's redneck trucker stuff and Chuck Norris beating up a bunch of hillbillies with no chance who don't know who they are messing with. Breaker! Breaker! is hilarious and a lot of campy fun. While this is by no means the best Chuck Norris movie, you can certainly do much worse. It is a hard movie to take seriously, but if you enjoy the movie Convoy and like low budget karate movies, Breaker! Breaker! is for you good buddy. That is a big 10/4 , over and out.

Decent flick

Breaker!Breaker! was Chuck Norris' first American-made movie in which he had a leading role. It was also his first movie as a good guy. This ultra-low budget flick has a clean-shaven Chuck playing a truck driver searching for his lost brother in a corrupt town run by an even more corrupt judge. While this isn't one of Chuck's best films, it is worth a watch for diehard Norris fans. I have to admit I love watching Chuck beat up bad guys and this movie delivers the goods. While the movie does drag at certain points, the fight sequences make up for the slow pacing. It's also quite obvious that this movie was made to capitalize on the CB craze of the 70's.

Vigilante Truckers...Well Heehaw!

Ok with this film there are a number of ingredients at work:

First put in loads of hillbilly truckers--good ole boys who have secret desire to take law into own hands. Second put in evil hillbilly cops controlled by a Texas bred outlaw. Third put in karate fighting trucker played by Chuck Norris. Fourth put in a chump teenager as Norris's nephew captured by evil hillbilly cops. Fifth show Chuck Norris fighting in slow motion.

Now mix all together and what have you got?

You guessed it...one very mediocre movie!

"I'm going to stick ya, boy".

Breaker! Breaker! Here we got Chuck Norris with his golden blonde hair flowing in the wind starring in his first leading role, where he's not only kicking ass (that's hillbilly ass), but driving a truck. That's a ten-four. "Breaker! Breaker!" is an ultra-cheap, b-grade action outing where marital arts meet spaghetti western… kind of. Well it has that operatic style in its clunky direction, like the outstanding climatic showdown. Close ups on the faces, slow-motion and a rousing score. One-sided, but powerful. Everything about this feature is daft (especially the truck convey to the rescue), but it doesn't seem to know that. Still it's rather amusing watching Norris in a small backwoods town causing a ruckus. Ultimate chaos! "Dukes of Hazards" chaos. Looks like all in a good days work. Easy work too. I don't think I ever saw him break a sweat, moving on from one encounter to another. What occurs it just so unhinged, if pedestrian. The story is threadbare, as trucker Billy Dawes disappears during his first solo run, so his older brother J.D sets out to find him. This leads J.D to a small remote community that's run by a corrupt judge who preys upon unsuspecting motorists. Simple, but fairly madcap with a comical air. The villains corn it up, as George Murdock goes over-the-top as the crazy judge. Norris looking good in double denim and black gloves goes about his business accordingly. Deadpan, but in what counts it's a marvel to see him in his element. Even when he's beaten up or wounding a gunshot. Nothing slows down this man on a mission. Of brotherly love. Then you got the southern hillbilly twang to the music score, you know that boot kicking stuff. An oddball, low-grade action Norris fare.

"I'm not going anywhere until I know where my brother is."

No-Moustache Norris vs Texas (the Hillbilly village, not the State...)

Chuck Norris didn't have a beard or moustache yet in the 70s (and thus no sex-appeal), but he already was a karate-expert. This led to him receiving his first small roles in the first half of the decade, but he slowly became an action hero icon in the second half. This film, together with "Good Guys wear Black" one year later, was the first movie that put Chuck Norris in the spotlights, and admittedly he still looks somewhat nerdy and insecure. In 1977, you wouldn't have guessed that 30-40 years later, this same man would represent pure toughness and macho behavior (or at least in the famous "Chuck Norris" jokes that can be found all over the internet).

In "Breaker! Breaker" Norris depicts an arm-wrestling truck driver searching for his kid brother who went missing with a cargo of frozen dinner meals. He ends up in a hillbilly village named Texas City (ironically located in California) where there apparently exists an entirely different law and justice system. The local judge - and self-declared emperor - Joshua Trimmings determines the laws, and orders his equally corrupt deputies to collect imaginary road taxes from passing truckers and to confiscate their cargos.

"Breaker! Breaker!" feels like a rip-off of Sam Peckinpah's "Convoy", but strangely enough it was released one year earlier. Together with that (overrated) semi-classic and a few others (like the awesome "White Line Fever"), this is part of a typically 70s hype nicknamed "Trucksploitation". Truckers revolting against the authorities, ignoring roadblocks, boosting each other via CB Radio, that sort of stuff. It's an action flick, but not at all violent. Chuck showcases his karate skills against a whole bunch of hillbillies (with pitchforks) and that's it. It's oddly structured with a climax that comes suddenly, and there isn't even a final battle between the hero and the lead villain (only between the hero and an insignificant deputy).

Has Some Nostalgic Value

Having just taught his younger brother "Billy Dawes" (Michael Augenstein ) how to drive a tractor-trailer, a trucker by the name of "John David 'J. D.' Dawes" (Chuck Norris) watches as Billy drives off with his first load. However, on the way to his destination he is stopped by a local police officer and informed that he will have to take a detour through the town of Texas City, California. Naturally, Billy complies with the instructions given to him only to be pulled over further down the road and taken to a nearby courthouse where he is found guilty of bogus charges and his truck in confiscated. The next day, having received no communication from his brother, J.D. drives on the same route he imagines Billy must have taken and it's then that he encounters a level of corruption that he never thought was imaginable. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this was one of the first films to take advantage of the CB craze that had swept America during the 70's with "Smokey and the Bandit" being the most popular at the time. To that extent, this particular picture pales in comparison to its well-known rival due in large part to the wooden acting of Chuck Norris, the poor script and the simplistic plot that is typical for a low-budget production of this sort. Admittedly, it has some nostalgic value but the weaknesses mentioned previously were simply too apparent and I have rated it accordingly. Slightly below average.

I love this movie

Chuck Norris comes to town looking for his brother who has been brutalized by a bunch of crooked redneck jerks. Chuck systematically beats the freaking hello out of each and every one of them. What's not to like, this stuff is Dope man... You will love each and every ash kicking moment and there are lots of them. Chuck even gets in a bit of wise cracking along the way. I almost felt sorry for the bad guys...naw I didn't. This flick thrilled me, chilled me, and never bored me one iota. This is Chuck at his best and ranks right up there with Lone Wolf McQuade and Forced Vengeance as one of the very best butt kicking shows out there in movie land. A sure fire can't miss thrill ride right to the very end. Go for it.

Not Bad, But Not Good Either

This picture was made back in 1977 and I don't remember where I saw it at. This was a very young and very blonde Chuck Norris who played the role of John David Dawes. Also George Murdock plays the role of Judge Trimmings and terry O'Conner plays the role of Arlene. When John returns home he goes to see his brother who's riding a dirt bike. John brother Billy wants to drive a big rig and take a load of something somewhere. So John agrees to let Billy take a load gets to a small town in Texas. Billy gets into trouble with a Joshua Trimmings who's a crooked Judge that runs the small town. When John fines out that Billy never made it, he heads towards Texas to fine him. Breaker, Breaker, wasn't the best movie but it wasn't that bad. I give this movie 7 weasel stars basically for its action.

Chuck at his best

This is definitely one of the best Kung fu movies in the history of Cinema. The screenplay is really well done (which is not often the case for this type of movies) and you can see that Chuck (in one of his first role)is a great actor. The final fight with the sherif deputy in the bullring is a masterpiece!
