"Sublokator" (The Tenant) was a striking debut of Janusz Majewski, who also wrote the script for this film. I watched it first as a boy and then a couple of years ago, with more understanding of what's behind the script. The story is about the young scientist (Janusz Machulski) renting a room in an old house inhabited by three women of different generations: Maria (Barbara Ludwizanka), Kazimiera (Katarzyna Laniewska), and Malgosia (Magdalena Zawadzka). "The Tenant" is not for everyone's taste, even though many scenes should be funny for all viewers. But you cannot view the plot as a straight story. The script was inspired by the prose of Witold Gombrowicz, Bruno Szulz, and Franz Kafka, mainly by the grotesque and black humor side of those writers' works. So if someone likes those kinds of climates, I think that he will enjoy watching "The Tenant".
