Good and enjoyable Spaghetti/Paella/Paté Western co-produced by Italy/Spain/France

This is a good S.W. plenty of action , shootouts , thrills and fist-play . It's a thrilling western with breathtaking confrontation between the protagonist Giuliano Gemma against the heartless Peter Cross , his son Massimo Righi and his underlings as Nello Pazzafini . It deals with a cowboy named Brent Landers (Giuliano Gemma) is deceived by Gil Clawson (Nello Pazzafini) and after taking place a shotdown in which dies a man called Stan Clevenger (Germano Longo) . Tricked into buying stolen cattle , Brent on the run for a killing he didn't commit . Landers attempts to clear his name and he narrowly breaks out being lynched . Brent goes to New Mexico where he hopes encounter a person who can exculpate him . While on his way along the desert Las Mesas he finds a wounded woman (Ida Gally or Evelyn Stewart) who has been abducted , tortured , tied in front of sun , sets her free and then takes his vengeance . They arrive in a little town called Sage Crossing where rules a wealthy owner called Clayton Ranchester (Peter Cross or Pierre Cressoy) and his son (Massimo Rhigi) . Still wanted, he hunts down the actual cattle rustlers and he befriends the town doctor (Roberto Camardiel) and the sheriff (Jesus Puente) .

Agreeable Chorizo-Spaghetti Western co-produced by Spain, Italy and France and follows the American models more than Sergio Leone style . This Western is a superior outing because it displays thrills , emotion , shoot'em up , brawls , intrigue , riding pursuits and many other things . There is plenty of action in the movie , guaranteeing some shots or stunts every few minutes . The picture is a tale of justice and revenge , as a gunfighter looks for a man in a border little town and seeks vendetta against the woman's torturers . The basic plot is typical spaghetti western fare , but what makes this movie stand out is its style . The starring called Brent is stunningly played by Giuliano Gemma . Giuliano is very fine , he ravages the screen , he jumps , bounds and leaps , hit and run . Gemma as a brave and two-fisted gunslinger is terrific , subsequently the would play similar role in other Spaghettis . Gemma , along with Anthony Steffen and Gianni Garco , results to be one of the greatest stars of the Spaghetti genre .Gemma in his beginning worked as stunt-man , practiced many sports in his life, boxing, gymnastics, such as is well proved at the movie . Then the director, Duccio Tessari, gave him the first role as protagonist in the film " The Titani" and the first spaghetti western films where he often worked under the name of Montgomery Wood , playing Western as ¨A pistol for Ringo¨, ¨The return of Ringo¨ and others as ¨Adios Gringo¨, ¨Arizona Colt¨, ¨The price of power¨ , ¨Day of anger¨ and later ¨California¨. However, his first big opportunity came with the important Italian director, Luchino Visconti in ¨El Gatopardo¨ this was followed by important roles in "Angelica" , ¨Tenebre¨ , ¨Young Lions¨ and ¨The master touch¨. Then he played his most significant roles in ¨Il Deserto Dei Tartari¨ and ¨Il Prefetto Di Ferro¨ .

In the movie appears usual support actors as Spanish : Roberto Camardiel , Frank Braña , Antonio Iranzo , Jesus Puente as Italian players as Pierre Cressoy , Massimo Righi Jeff Cameron as a hoodlum , Germano Longo and of course , Nello Pazzafini . It's a co-production Spanish-Italian and shot on location in Manzanares Del Real , La Pedriza and Colmenar Viejo (Madrid) , Spain . There are many fine technicians and nice assistant direction , excellent production design , and atmospheric cinematography by Francisco Sempere , he creates a magnificent scenario on the interior ranch and barren outdoors , dirty landscapes under a glimmer sun . The music original by Benedetto Ghiglia composes a nice Spaghetti soundtrack and well conducted and splendid leitmotif ; it's full of enjoyable sounds and emotive score , including enjoyable songs at the beginning and the end.

The flick was professionally directed by Giorgo Stegani or George Finley , though with no originality . This Italian writer / filmmaker so consistently mixed the good with the mediocre that it became quite impossible to know what to expect from him next . He wrote several Western and intriguing films . He's is an expert writer of Giallo and Western as ¨Blood of a silver dollar¨ and ¨ Beyond the law ¨ and occasionally Western director as ¨Adios Gringo¨ , ¨Beyond the law¨ , and ¨Gentleman Jo¨. Rating : 6 . Acceptable and passable Western that will appeal to Spahetti fans because being filled with action , thrills , intrigue and crossfire

          Great stuff!

I watch a lot of spaghetti westerns, and "Adiós Gringo" is one of the best I have seen for quite some time. It wastes no time getting to business; the dire situation for the hero is set up in the movie's first six minutes! And the remaining eighty seven or so minutes are extremely captivating. This spaghetti western has a particular hard edge, from the many killings, fist fights, and the humiliation and ordeal the movie's leading female character is forced to go through. Also, the movie really puts the pressure on the hero, making his list of problems increase as the movie progresses from one scene to another. I was frequently wondering if the hero would ever clear his name! The action sequences, though a bit sporadic, are very well done - you really feel the punches and the bullet wounds. The icing on the cake is a nice musical score. If there is any problem with the movie, it would have to be the title - why it is in Spanish when the movie takes place in the United States and with no Mexicans around is a mystery. But that's a minor quibble. Check this movie out!

Decent Early Spaghetti Western And An Early Role For Giuliano Gemma

After unknowingly buying stolen cattle from an acquaintance, Giuliano Gemma is forced to kill their hot-headed owner in self-defense. Pursued by bounty hunters, he hunts down the cattle rustler in order to prove his innocence. Along the way, he finds a rape victim staked to the ground and himself at odds with yet another powerful foe.

An early western role for Giuliano Gemma, this borrows ever so slightly from the Kirk Douglas vehicle Last Train From Gun Hill, with it's spoiled rich-boy-gone-bad villain and is in turn is borrowed upon by Hang 'Em High, a few years later.

This is pretty unsophisticated and not one of Gemma's best, though it's entertaining enough and competently made, with a straight-forward story and some good Spanish scenery, although the petty townspeople that seem to populate the movie are just too much!

With his good looks, charisma and way with action, it's easy to see why Gemma went on to bigger things in Europe, even if he's only known as a cult star elsewhere.

I have watched a lot of non Leone "Spaghetti Westerns" and this is one of the best.

There is no hunt for missing gold. There are no Mexicans, despite the questionable title "Adios Gringo." There is no anti-hero like the "Man With No Name. What this film has that so many inferior Italian "oaters" lack is a comprehensive storyline, and strong character development. A damsel in distress (Evelyn Stewart) is rescued by a falsely accused fugitive (Giuliano Gemma). Gemma is trying to find the man who cheated him, and clear his name. This is a simple tale, but refreshingly different than the usual "Spaghetti Western" storyline. Gemma, as always is a very likable hero, and his support from a Sheriff and Doctor, who are both sympathetic to his just cause, adds immensely. Seek this one out, and you will be rewarded. MERK.

          Gripping western

Brett Landers, a cowboy, buys cattle from his friend Gil Clawson for his ranch but gets falsely accused of theft. In self-defense, he kills his accuser and faces a lynch mob. Escaping with his gun, Brett vows to return and find the real thief. On his journey, he encounters Lucy, a girl kidnapped and tortured during a stagecoach attack.

Despite helping Lucy, Brett faces suspicion in the nearest town as the real culprits are still at large. Lucy identifies the thieves, including Gil Clawson. One of them, Avery Ranchester, is the son of influential Clayton Ranchester. The trio tries to silence Lucy, kidnapping Brett to stage an escape. Brett escapes, kills one bandit, and flees with Lucy, while Clayton Ranchester turns the crowd against Brett, sparking a mountain manhunt.

Adios Gringo is a thoroughly gripping western that has a hard edge and a certain depth to the characters. There's action but close attention is paid to the plot and characterisation. The pace never falters nor does the challenges for the hero. The hero, of course, is Guiliano Gemma who is a likeable and sympathetic character. His gentleness to the Lucy after her ordeal is touching. The supporting cast includes Nello Pazzafini as the villainous Jack Dawson, Roberto Camardiel as a doctor and Evelyn Stewart as Lucy, all deliver really well. I liked the sheriff - who was a little reluctant to help as he doesn't want to rock the boat and lose his job but finally does the right thing- and the doctor working together to help Brett and Lucy - it was a fun aspect. The finale is a tense showstopper.
