Bokhandlaren som slutade bada

It's a pity that this unique little film has vanished from wide circulation. It's different to the films that we saw Kulle play leads in (notably the Bergmans) but located in a similarly Scandinavian world - here in a lushly coloured period rural setting.

After the galumphing opening, we are surprised to find the notion that God sees humour in tragedy worked out in this bitter sweet manner. The action comes to center on book seller Adwall who looks like his marriage to Krook will be a step towards life enhancement - until her background is revealed.

The film surprises by having the disgusting, comic brother prove more understanding than the sympathetic husband and his learning not even giving him the insight into mirror images which would have made his later life more bearable.

Attractive colour, great age make up.
