Snowbody Loves Me

Snowbody Loves Me reminds me a lot of the Gene Deitch T&J cartoon Buddies... Thicker Than Water, in which Jerry is enjoying the warmth of a luxury apartment while Tom freezes outside. This one starts with the roles reversed, Jerry freezing in the snow while Tom is wrapped up nice and warm in a cheese shop. Jerry knocks on the door, and, while Tom goes outside to see who is there, the mouse sneaks in, the door closing to trap Tom out in the cold. After much cat and mouse action, which sees Tom finding his way in via the chimney and throwing Jerry back outside, the pair eventually make friends and spend the evening with Tom playing the piano and Jerry dancing (sound familiar?).

There's really not a whole lot of originality here in terms of plot and gags, and Chuck Jones' version of the cat and mouse still doesn't feel quite right, but Snowbody Loves Me is passable fare for fans of the series, and still an improvement over any of Gene Deitch's efforts.

The Chuck Jones Tom and Jerry cartoons were quite uneven. He and his crew could never quite seem to make up their minds as to whether the pair were adversaries or pals. Here, they start out enemies and become best buddies. But there are some good visual bits and a stunning lack of planning and foresight on Tom's part-following his plans down to their logical conclusion doesn't seem to be his long suit. Enjoyable, even if the ending is a bit too precious for words. Well worth watching. Recommended.

I have to agree that Chuck Jones' Tom and Jerry output is hit and miss. None of them are as terrible as the Gene Deitch cartoons, but at the same the best of them are not even close to those of the 40s-mid 50s, which range from very good to classic. Snowbody Loves Me is one of his better ones. It is an early entry of his, his fifth in fact and much better than those before it. It isn't perfect the action sometimes is slow and not all the gags work. However, the animation does look beautiful, by far one of the best-looking Tom and Jerry cartoons with Jones in charge. The music is sensitive to the action and pleasing to listen to, without being dull like Much Ado About Mousing. The story is very cute and is enough to warm the heart, the ending is very sweet. Tom and Jerry are very likable characters as ever whether as friends or enemies(there is a good point made though about the lack of consistency in Jones' cartoons in how their relationship is conveyed) with personalities that make them very memorable. In conclusion, a lovely cartoon which is neither a classic or abomination. 8/10 Bethany Cox

This one has really good art style and nice relaxing music. The gags are really laughable and the ending is happy and heart warming.

The following comments being from one whose top picks are Hollywood Bowl and Mouse in Manhatten, this episode shows both Tom and Jerry at their cutest and incredibly adorable. One of the most colorful and expressive of the Jones works, the fireplace and medicine provide contrast warmth from the icy wintertime cold. The "singing," "dancing," pranks of silliness, as well as fun and friendship all wrapped into one make this a huge bonus without taking away from the decades-before Quimby-American classics. Please consider that this reviewer's comments are based upon: (1) having not viewed each and every T&J episode; (2) having viewed only one Dietch short and (3) has difficulties getting past the primitive animation of the 1940s episodes even though the ideas are golden (accustomed to more contemporary yet clean animation).
