There's been no shortage of material about the Beatles, perhaps the most heavily documented musical group in history. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr's earth-shattering appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 has been recounted in many films and TV specials, most famously Richard Lester's A Hard Day's Night, so what more could possibly be said about the iconic moment? For David Tedeschi, director of Beatles '64, there was a lot of meat left on the bone.
As Tedeschi tells Gold Derby, "the seed of the idea was this extraordinary footage" shot by legendary documentarians David and Albert Maysles "which had never really been given its due." The footage "only covered about two-and-a-half weeks of time," documenting the group's first trip to America. "It was a very short trip, but it felt momentous. We thought with this extraordinary footage it could be the beginning of...

The 1975 musical satire is a curious amalgam of madcap comedy and Brit realism as the band ride the giddy highs and brutal lows of the 70s music industry
Here is Slade’s movie musical satire from 1975, a film with all the pungent historical presence of a pub ashtray, about an imaginary band called Flame which looked and sounded a lot like Slade, fronted by Stoker, played by Noddy Holder. It came out a year after the film’s soundtrack album was released, and now gets a rerelease for its 50-year anniversary. Slade in Flame – which is to say, Flame, starring Slade – is regarded by fans and non-fans alike with enormous affection and regard, and it certainly has a weird, goofy energy: the audio mix sometimes surreally privileging ambient sounds such as doors closing and glasses chinking, with the dialogue way in the background.

"Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary." No, that's not the logline for the next Marvel movie, but for the four Beatles films set to be directed by Sam Mendes. It's best to clear your schedule, though, as they're all set to be released in April 2028. You read that right — four films in one month focusing on one of the most important bands in music history. If we could needle-drop "Help!" here, we absolutely would.
The frankly wild decision to make four fab films about each individual member of the Beatles was confirmed at CinemaCon, after reports last year that Mendes was giving The Beatles their own "Avengers" movies. The reveal also finally confirmed who was playing the titular band. Paul Mescal is down for Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan is Ringo Starr, Joseph Quinn is playing George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson is John Lennon, if you can imagine that.

Wait, what? Sony Pictures has announced the cast of The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, directed by Sam Mendes, and it's impressive. Harris Dickinson (John Lennon), Paul Mescal (Paul McCartney), Barry Keoghan (Ringo Starr), and Joseph Quinn (George Harrison) will star in four interconnected movies, all coming to theaters in April 2028. It's being called the first "bingeable" movie experience. The project marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and The Beatles – Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison – have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film. The logline is simple:
Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary. The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event.
Sam Mendes and the four stars took the stage at CinemaCon, along with Sony chief Tom Rothman. Each of the four stars quotes a line from “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,...

It’s been 20 years since Grey’s Anatomy premiered on ABC and ushered in a new era of television medical dramas. Shonda Rhimes‘ breakthrough drama was steamy, whipsmart, and full of fresh talent seriously bursting to shine. “A Hard Day’s Night” set the tone for a show that would (and continues to) set records for the subgenre. Chances are, you’ll remember the moment Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) realizes her one-night stand Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) is her boss, when Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) delivers his famous intern speech, and even when Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) lists out her rules to her frightened crop of new doctors. What you might not know, though, are these fun facts about the Grey’s Anatomy pilot. The title of the show was originally something very different. As detailed in the tell-all How to Save a Life, there were several alternative titles going around before Grey’s Anatomy was chosen,...

Grey's Anatomy boasts of being one of the longest-running medical dramas in history. It has also scooped up a plethora of prestigious awards during its time, solidifying its place on primetime TV. Even in the streaming era, it still reigns supreme. Thus, it's fair to say that very few shows can match up to the grandiose success of Grey's Anatomy.
However, it would be unrealistic to think that new fans could watch the entire show in just a few days. While that may have been possible in the age of DVD box sets, there's just far too much content for viewers to consume these days. Thus, it's vital that fans watch a handful of essential episodes so that they can have a complete idea of how the show operates.

As a Brit, I may be a little biased when I say this: The opening ceremony for the London 2012 Summer Olympics was the best ever. Directed by Danny Boyle, the usual hour of dancers and acrobats twirling around was spectacular and silly, complete with skits celebrating the Industrial Revolution, the NHS, and the nation's rich cultural scene. Movie buffs also got two special treats: Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean daydreaming about beating the boys from "Chariots of Fire" in their famous beach race, and Queen Elizabeth II making her screen debut opposite Daniel Craig's James Bond before her stunt double sky-dived into the stadium. It was surely the best trailer "Skyfall," which hit theaters a few months later, could have hoped for.
The music of the Fab Four featured heavily during the ceremony, complete with Sir Paul McCartney wrapping things up by leading a sing-a-long to "Hey Jude." As such,...

“We had a blast — and you were the blasters!” Paul McCartney told the crowd at the end of his surprise Tuesday show in New York City. McCartney played a spontaneous gig at the Bowery Ballroom, a beloved rock bar on the Lower East Side that holds only 575 people. He was presumably warming up to play the Saturday Night Live anniversary this weekend. But he blew the minds of a few hundred shocked but lucky fans, none of whom woke up that day imagining they might be in store for a McCartney show.

Sure, you're familiar with "Grey's Anatomy," the longest-running medical drama in TV history that premiered on ABC in 2005 as a humble mid-season replacement. Shonda Rhimes' soapy, steamy, and delightfully over-the-top hospital drama, led by Ellen Pompeo as the eponymous Dr. Meredith Grey, follows five surgical interns as they begin working at a major hospital in Seattle; after those interns become residents and attendings, the show keeps introducing new incoming intern classes as they're thrown headfirst into one of the most daunting and intense professions around. So, uh, what the heck is "Grey's Anatomy: B-Team?"
In January of 2018, a webseries called "Grey's Anatomy: B-Team" hit ABC.com, giving audiences a closer look at the 14th season's intern class. Introduced after the first few episodes of said season, Dr. Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli), Dr. Sam Bello (Jeanine Mason), Dr. Casey Parker (Alex Blue Davis), Dr. Vikram Roy (Rushi Kota), Dr. Taryn Helm (Jaicy Elliott), and Dr.

With the growing excitement over Sam Mendes’ upcoming quartet of Beatles biopics (which we now know will feature Gladiator II's Paul Mescal), as well as the new documentary film Beatles ’64 wowing critics, interest in the Beatles’ film output is once again skyrocketing. It’s easy to forget the Fab Four released no less than five movies during their time together, including A Hard Day’s Night (1964), Help! (1965), and the concert film The Beatles at Shea Stadium (1966). Those first three were acclaimed to varying degrees, but the winning streak was well and truly broken by 1967's Magical Mystery Tour.

Grey's Anatomy often prides itself on being a somewhat scientifically accurate medical drama. While its contemporaries like Chicago Med and New Amsterdam strive to take their stories to new heights, Grey's Anatomy prefers to keep the audience grounded in its realistic arcs. Yet, some audiences believe that the hit medical drama has gone too overboard in recent years and now allows its doctors to do whatever they please.
Aside from ignoring the Hippocratic Oath, a lot of these doctors spend more of their time solving their own personal crises. Yet, that's what makes the show so spectacular; it isn't afraid to show a darker side to modern healthcare. However, a lot of fans agree that some of Grey Sloan's best doctors should've been kicked out a long time ago.

The Restoration of ‘Beatles ’64’ Brings the Most Iconic Moment in Rock ‘n’ Roll History Back to Life
In February 1964, as America was still reeling from the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, The Beatles arrived in the U.S. for the first time and took the country by storm. Their debut appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show” drew more than 73 million viewers, and they created a media frenzy everywhere they went, a situation playfully recreated in Richard Lester‘s classic musical comedy “A Hard Day’s Night,” which went into production right after The Beatles returned to England after their two week trip.
Before Lester’s film, however, legendary documentarians Albert and David Maysles — then at the beginning of their careers — documented the Beatles’ U.S. sojourn in footage that has barely been seen since it was shot due to a variety of clearance issues (not to mention the fact that United Artists didn’t really want the material in general release where it could dilute the appeal...

The Beatles transformed pop culture during the 1960s and had so many incredible songs that even some of their most obscure compositions could be classified as masterpieces. While there are very few people on planet Earth who wouldn’t recognize hits like “Yesterday,” “Here Comes the Sun,” or “Let It Be,” there are just as many incredible underrated Beatles tracks that deserve way more love. For every “A Hard Day's Night” or “Eleanor Rigby,” there’s another hidden gem that long-time lovers of the Fab Four will point to as a forgotten classic in need of more attention.

"Let’s Move Past Age 13”: Hollywood’s Ongoing Beatles Obsession Called Out By Oscar-Winning Director
Oscar-winning writer/director Adam Mckay has called out movies like Beatles '64. He has also been involved with recent NBA projects, including being an executive producer on Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty and hosting the limited series podcast Death at the Wing.
Now, McKay has taken to social media to question if a documentary like Beatles '64 is necessary. Releasing on Disney+, the documentary is directed by David Tedeschi and produced by Martin Scorsese. It follows The Beatles' first three weeks in America, including their legendary performance on The Ed Sullivan Show. The Beatles landed in New York City in February 1964 — their first time setting foot on the American soil that they’d spent their lives dreaming about in Liverpool. Even as the plane was landing, they were wondering out loud why the U.S. would care about an English rock & roll band. But when they played The Ed Sullivan Show, for a TV audience of 73 million viewers, they did more than just invade America. They founded a new kind of daydream nation: the United States of Beatlemania.

If there’s any chapter of the Beatles’ saga that Beatles fans the world over feel they know in their bones, it’s the early months of 1964, when the Beatles first came to America — a happening that shook the world, and that changed it profoundly. “Beatles ’64” is a documentary that chronicles the three weeks the Beatles spent in the U.S. starting in February of that year. They came to New York to perform on “The Ed Sullivan Show” (their first appearance on the show was Feb. 9). They then took a train to Washington, D.C., to give a concert at the Washington Coliseum, then flew to Miami Beach, where they did their second “Ed Sullivan” appearance.

Every James Bond movie has separate iconic songs to get listed, but the James Bond Theme has become synonymous with the franchise name. It has been the signature music since Dr. No in 1962. Before Daniel Craig took the legacy baton forward in 2006, every Eon-produced James Bond movie featured Monty Norman’s created theme song. Although Monty Norman wrote several songs for other musical stage plays, including Pinocchio, Stand, and Deliver, he will forever be remembered for composing the iconic James Bond music.

Strange but true: The Beatles’ American record company decided not to release their albums. Instead, Capitol chopped them up to generate more product. Nobody at the label had any idea that future generations would revere these records as sacred artistic units. No, Capitol just wanted to squeeze more funny paper out of the moptops before the bubble burst. So they doled out 12 songs per LP instead of 14, and rushed out seven albums in a year. American fans got different versions than the rest of the world. The U.S. albums have been forgotten by history,...

Over 40 years after his tragic death on December 8, 1980, John Lennon‘s music, both with The Beatles and in his solo career, is fondly remembered by fans who were there at the time and has gained admiration with every new generation that has come along. In addition, Lennon’s writing and particularly his vocals have been held in high esteem by music critics around the world for decades.
The Oscar and Grammy winner’s contribution to the band shifted as the band passed from genre to genre — from pop idols to sound experimenters to psychedelia and finally to political activism — and he adapted his vocals to meet each of those needs. From his joyous vocals on “A Hard Day’s Night” to his slightly-high work on “Strawberry Fields Forever” to the rollicking “Twist and Shout,” Lennon’s range with the band was remarkable.

In Grey's Anatomy, Tyler Christian was a beloved and pivotal nurse at Grey Sloan, guiding interns and offering patient support. Christian showcased the significance of nurses by stepping in during critical moments, emphasizing teamwork. Despite his initial importance, Tyler was phased out with no explanation, leaving fans disappointed and wanting closure.
Though Grey's Anatomy shines a spotlight on its major characters, many fans see the show's secondary characters as just as important. While icons like Miranda Bailey are carrying out life-saving surgery, the nurses of Grey Sloan are working to keep the hospital up and running to a good standard. So, although they may not get as much screen time as their counterparts, these secondary characters are useful resources for moving the plot forward.

Six decades ago, we were in the throes of Beatlemania. The Fab Four scored their first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart “I Want to Hold Your Hand” on Feb. 1. And the U.S. got to meet The Beatles, four lads from Liverpool when they invaded the U.S. that month making three historic appearances on CBS’ “The Ed Sullivan Show.” They were met with the screams of young girls with burgeoning hormones. By April 4, they had the top five singles on the chart: “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Twist and Shout,” “She Loves You,” “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and “Please Please Me.”
Despite their extraordinary success, hopes weren’t high for their first film, “A Hard Day’s Night,” which opened in the U.S. on Aug. 11. Most films starring a group or singer du jour were horrible. So much so, the New York Times’ Bosley Crowther was in...

‘Kneecap’, the name of the Irish hip hop group, and the music biopic about — and starring — the groundbreaking trio, opens today on 700+ screens, following up a U.S. tour last fall and leading into another one.
The hybrid documentary, which was a buzzy Sundance title when Sony Pictures Classics nabbed it, recently swept the Galway Film Fleadh and was named Ireland’s Oscar International Feature submission.
Written and directed by Rich Peppiatt, it features group members — Naoise Ó Cairealláin “Móglaí Bap”; Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh “Mo Chara”; and JJ Ó Dochartaigh “Dj Provaí” as themselves, but it’s scripted, and actors, including Michael Fassbender, play their younger selves and family members. With Josie Walker, Fionnuala Flaherty, Jessica Reynolds, Adam Best and Simone Kirby.

The international Oscar race has begun. Ireland and Austria have put up their national contenders for the 2025 Academy Awards in the best international feature category. And the two movies could hardly be more different.
For its Oscar contender, Austria has selected The Devil’s Bath, Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala’s inspired-by-history feminist horror film. Ireland has, unsurprisingly, gone for the craic, picking Rich Peppiatt’s cheeky doc-comedy Kneecap, about the real-life Belfast rappers of the title.
Franz and Fiala, known for their 2014 horror classic Goodnight Mommy and 2019’s The Lodge, explore a dark corner of history with The Devil’s Bath. Set in 18th-Century rural Austria, it is inspired by the documented cases of depressed people, mainly women, who, terrified of the eternal damnation promised them if they committed suicide, instead chose to commit murder, often killing children, a crime that would allow them to repent and seek absolution in confession before their execution.

Isaiah Washington's character, Dr. Preston Burke, controversially left Grey's Anatomy in Season 3. Sir Paul McCartney made a cameo in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales as a favor to his friend and Jack Sparrow actor, Johnny Depp. McCartney played Uncle Jack, Jack Sparrow's lookalike uncle, and sang an old Liverpool sailors song in the film. While the future of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is uncertain, there are plans for a potential sixth film and multiple spinoffs.
Sir Paul McCartney isn't just known for rocking with The Beatles but also for starring in several films throughout his career. McCartney starred as himself in the 1964 film A Hard Day's Night alongside his former bandmates John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. The British boy band also appeared in Help! and Magical Mystery Tour.

Let It Be aimed to revitalize the Beatles but inadvertently highlighted tensions leading to their breakup. The documentary captures conflicts within the band, exacerbated by internal expectations and creative differences. The iconic rooftop concert marked the Beatles' final public performance as a group before their solo careers.
Let It Be, which has been remastered and rereleased on Disney+, showcases the final concert and the increasing tensions that led the Beatles to break up. Formally beginning in 1960, the Beatles quickly became one of the world's most iconic and influential bands. For almost a decade, the Beatles weathered massive controversies and internal strife to produce some of the 20th century's most iconic songs, all while starring in major films like great music movies like A Hard Day's Night and animated films like Yellow Submarine. However, the band eventually reached a point where they couldn't maintain their cohesion as a band.

I first saw “Let It Be” when I was a kid, in the summer of 1970, just weeks after it was released. My family was coming off one of those “Vacation” road trips. During the miles of driving, we listened to Top 40 radio, which meant that several times a day I got to hear “The Long and Winding Road,” which I thought was the most beautiful song I’d ever heard. I knew that the first thing I was going to do when we got back was go to see “Let It Be” — and, in fact, it was the first Beatles thing I was old enough to connect to as it was happening.
The Beatles, in their early years, looked alike, and even after they’d entered the psychedelic zone with “Revolver” and “Sgt. Pepper” they dressed and coiffed themselves with a splashy coordinated harmony. They were unified. And that made a kind of supreme sense,...
