Avis à la une
My Grade: A
"Hey, this calls for strategy. I'll fight fire with fire," he proclaims. He decides to run against "Honest Sam."
Talk about smear campaigns! Mainly, what these two guys try to do is the blow the other guy up, with dynamite stuck in everything from watermelons to pianos. It's the usual fare, but that means some clever gags and Bugs usually outwitting the loud and obnoxious Sam.
In the ending, well, let's just saw a "dark horse" surprises both candidates.
In this episode, we first see Yosemite Sam trying to place himself in the title of mayor, by convincing the townspeople to respect him. As he strings out a rather irrelevant list of things he will do for them, Sam tells the people he will eradicate every rabbit. Duh, Bugs Bunny is listening nearby - and of course -, he does his best to fight against Sam and become mayor. Cartoon capers commence...
I do not want you to go away thinking that I really like this episode, it is not one of my very favourites. It is one of my favourites which includes Bugs and Sam.
I recommend this to people who like all Yosemite Sam and Bugs Bunny jokes and for Looney Tunes fans in general. Enjoy "Ballot Box Bunny"! :-)
This is a simple Bugs vs Yosemite Sam in an election fight. There are some very good gags. Theodore Roosevelt is a great bit and it offers terrific violence. Kissing babies is an obvious one and Bugs gets to dress up. The cigar bit is a little off topic. I have never seen people hand out cigars for an election. Maybe they could do something else like the candidates' buttons or balloons filled with gas. The picnic and ants are a solid gag. Again, it may not be directly on target, but it is adjacent. The piano gag is a classic which does get often recycled. I don't mind repeating it if it is comedy greatness. I really like the "Dark Horse" resolution. The Russian Roulette is rather dark, but darkness is part of the Looney Tunes legacy.

- AnecdotesThe original cartoon finished with Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam playing a game of Russian Roulette after they find out they both lost the election. This has been edited in most broadcasts, but the cartoon appears complete in the and the earlier international available super 8-mm releases and now in the new DVD release. Update: In 2023-24, the version shown on MeTV Saturday mornings also includes the Russian roulette ending.
- GaffesWhen Yosemite Sam announces his plan to get rid of every rabbit Bugs says "This calls for 'stragedy' " but closed captioning spells it as strategy.

[Runs to the back door and knocks]

Yosemite Sam: Yes, rabbit. I come to extend my hand in friendship. I like you, rabbit. You're a good Joe.
[Taps his foot on floor]
Yosemite Sam: Someone knocking at your front door, rabbit.
Bugs Bunny: Excuse me, Doc. I'll be right back.
Yosemite Sam: [to himself] In little bitty pieces.
Bugs Bunny: That was someone for you, Sam. She said to mention St. Louis.
Yosemite Sam: St. Louis? Emma! Yahoo! Emma, here's your Sammy boy!
[Runs out to front door; Explosion; comes back all burnt and dazed]
Yosemite Sam: Same old Emma. Full of laughs.
- Versions alternativesThe version aired on the Cartoon Network are cut and fade to black after Yosemite Sam says "mare?" The original ending has Bugs Bunny asking "anyone for Russian Roulette." Sam and Bugs take turn firing the gun. The gun doesn't fire on Sam, but when Bugs fires, it goes off, but Bugs says he missed. The bullet did hit Sam, to which he says "I hate that rabbit."
