Aside from a few quick shots of downtown landmarks, none of this movie was actually filmed in Tulsa. Most of the location work took place on the 10,000-acre ranch of Oklahoma Gov. Roy J. Turner in the town of Sulphur, 145 miles from Tulsa.
Chief Iron Eyes Cody, who was in fact Italian-American, not Native-American, and was featured in a 70's TV commercial about litter, appears in the opening credits.
The two tall buildings seen in the Tulsa city skyline behind the title are the Philtower Building at 427 S. Boston Ave. on the left, and the National Bank of Tulsa Building at 320 S. Boston Ave. on the right. Both are featured in closer shots later in the opening credits.
Cinematographer Winton C. Hoch was the preferred cameraman for John Ford, and won an Oscar for his work on La charge héroïque (1949).
Pedro Armendáriz was a huge star in Mexico, and appeared in several John Ford/John Wayne films. His son Pedro Armendáriz Jr. appeared in a cameo as the priest in Kurt Russell's western Tombstone (1993).
