Die Stadt ist voller Geheimnisse

As a Pole, I was learning German, among other things, by reading books by German writers and watching films from different periods. I found "Die Stadt ist voller Geheimnisse" (The city is full of secrets) interesting and diverging from the mainstream of the 1950s. I have always associated West German cinema of the 1950s with several valuable films that dealt with the past related to World War II and with trivial comedies of various quality. The description of "The city is full of secrets" seemed to promise something different, something about everyday life in West Germany in the 1950s. The plot is about the factory in trouble, where all employees are being laid off, and the story concentrates on some of those employees. Following the fate of these people, I looked with interest at the appearance of the streets, the interiors and furnishings of the rooms, and the clothes. I thought the acting was good, and the film kept me interested. But at the same time, I found the study of the milieu and social criticism somewhat superficial. Despite everything, I am giving the film a relatively high score of 7 because it is original in the context of the works of its time.
