Due to pressure from Warner Bros., this cartoon was one of 11 pulled from rotation by the Cartoon Network for its 2001 "June Bugs" marathon, which was to show the complete chronology of Bugs Bunny cartoons. This is in addition to the "Censored 11" that have been withheld from distribution since 1968. The reason given was its purportedly offensive depiction of Native Americans.
The copyright was renewed in 1969.
The short makes several direct references to The Song of Hiawatha, an epic poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
In 1995, the original opening and credits were restored for the American and European 1995 Turner dubbed prints, but the original ending was hacked off by the 1938 Merrie Melodies dubbed closing card (though the original ending music cue is kept intact on both dubbed version prints).
