The Philadelphia Story is based on a 1939 Broadway play of the same name by American playwright Philip Barry (1896-1949). American author and screenwriter Donald Ogden Stewart (1894-1980) is credited with the screenplay adaptation. The play was remade and released as La Haute Société (1956) in 1956.

Yes. That was Cole Porter's "I've Got My Eyes on You."

"The Philadelphia Story" was the name of the article Spy Magazine was planning to publish about Tracy's (Katharine Hepburn) wedding. It's mentioned in the early scene when Macaulay Connor (James Stewart) gets his assignment from Sidney Kidd (Henry Daniell).

"In superficial terms, the film is showing us just how bad relations got between Dexter and Tracy. We do not learn why they divorced until later in the film, but we do see that they both lost the ability to comport themselves peaceably. In addition, we see that their shows of frustration differ: Tracy takes her anger out on Dexter's possessions, while Dexter takes his anger out on Tracy." Read more here.
