Dorit Kemsley
Rhobh star Erika Jayne claps back at Dorit Kemsley’s criticism
Dorit Kemsley
Dorit Kemsley had a spicy moment on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and this time, it was directed at Erika Jayne.

Erika tries to balance her friendship with Dorit and Kyle Richards as their feud rages.

Dorit is less than thrilled that she continues to defend Kyle, unlike the rest of the cast.

The Beverly Beach founder recently claimed that Erika won’t speak out against the Og because she is afraid.

Meanwhile, Erika had a firm response for Dorit after her bold confessional.

The Roxie Hart actress affirmed that she’s not afraid of anyone on the Rhobh cast, and from what we’ve seen from Erika over the years, we believe her.

Erika Jayne responds to claim that she’s afraid of Kyle Richards

The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Roxie Hart

Final Jeopardy Explanation – Tuesday, July 2 2024

Beulah Annan, acquitted of shooting her lover in 1924, served as the inspiration for the character Roxie Hart in the play, film, and musical “Chicago.” The play, originally written by Maurine Dallas Watkins, is a satirical take on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the “celebrity criminal.” Watkins, a journalist at the time, had covered Annan’s sensational murder trial for the Chicago Tribune, and her articles heavily influenced her playwriting.

The Public Enemy Solidified Gang Rule Under James Cagney for 90 Years
Image
William Wellman’s The Public Enemy (1931) turns 90 this weekend. When the film first came out, a theater in Times Square showed it nonstop, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The movie marks the true beginning of gangster movies as a genre. Mervyn LeRoy’s Little Caesar may have hit theaters first, but The Public Enemy set the pattern, and James Cagney nailed the patter. Not just the street talk either; he also understood its machine gun delivery. His Tommy Powers is just a hoodlum, never a boss. He is a button man at best, even if he insisted his suits have six buttons.

The Public Enemy character wasn’t even as high up the ladder as Paul Sorvino’s caporegime Paul Cicero in Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas. But Cagney secured the turf Edward G. Robinson’s Rico Bandello took a bullet to claim in Little Caesar, and for the...

Ginger Rogers and George Montgomery in La folle histoire de Roxie Hart (1942)
Forgotten by Fox: Roxie Musical
Ginger Rogers and George Montgomery in La folle histoire de Roxie Hart (1942)
Let's be fair to Disney/Sony/Fox/whoever they think they are: there's been a DVD release of William Wellman's Roxie Hart (1942), but it's not currently streaming, which is a crying shame. It's a masterpiece, up there with The Public Enemy or Safe in Hell or Midnight Mary, Wellman's excoriating, criminous pre-Codes.The story may be a familiar one: former newspaperwoman Maurine Dallas Watkins' stage hit Chicago was filmed as a Cecil B. DeMille production in 1927, and more recently in musical form with Bob Fosse's choreography put through a blender by Rob Marshall, Harvey Weinstein, and Martin Walsh, who promptly won the Oscar for Most Editing. Our story, and its heroine, are laid in the great city of Chicago in the Roaring Twenties. An opening title solemnly dedicates the picture to all those women who have filled their husbands full of lead out of pique. George Montgomery plays an old newspaperman and then,...

The Complete List of 'Dancing With the Stars' Winners: Life After the Mirrorball!
Derek Hough at an event for Assassin's Creed II (2009)
Season 1: Kelly Monaco & Alec Mazo

Photo: ABC

There's nothing sweeter than holding the title of ABC's first-ever DWTS champion! Since winning the mirrorball, Monaco continued to portray the role of Samantha McCall on the network's daytime drama, General Hospital. Monaco made her most recent return to the show during season 25, pairing up with her close pal, Cheryl Burke, and former NFL star Terrell Owens for Trio Night.

Season 2: Drew Lachey & Cheryl Burke

Photo: ABC

The 98 Degrees singer had so much fun learning how to dance on the show, that he joined the pros and troupe dancers on their DWTS tour after winning the title. At the time, he had no idea that his brother, Nick Lachey, would later compete on season 25 of the show with Peta Murgatroyd. Unfortunately for Nick, he didn't have as much luck -- he and Peta were the fifth couple to be eliminated from the competition.

Find Your Jesus, Find Your Kubrick: Lady Gaga as Auteur
For a while, Lady Gaga was one of the most fascinating music stars that had come in a while, primarily because of her unapologetic bombast. Too often, though, she may have been written off as “weird”, from her odd fashion decisions, her performance art appearances on TV, and, of course, her music videos. Gaga, née Stefani Germanotta, through her strange videos presents a vision, often of powerful women and the subversion of fame, through each of her music videos. Sometimes straddling the line between film and music video, Lady Gaga, though not always the director of these videos, is always the auteur behind them.

Lady Gaga’s early music videos are nothing if not promotional material, with “LoveGame” and “Poker Face” being, for the most part, entirely generic within the context of her career. It was not perhaps until she employed the use of music video director Jonas Åkerlund that...

True Oscar Stories: Ann Reinking
Today is Ann Reinking's 64th birthday so do some impossibly precise Fosse moves tonight whereever you are in her honor #andallthatjazz

When I tweeted that this morning the internet saw fit to remind me of her big Oscar moment performing Phil Collins' Against All Odds (1984) and though it was legendarily awful I personally have nothing but fond memories of Reinking from Annie (1982) and Micki & Maude (1984) and her foxy Roxie Hart (pre-movie version). Plus, of course, All That Jazz (1979) which would have been a better Oscar moment had they saw fit to nominate her for Best Supporting Actress that year.

I have only very vague memories of the 1984 Oscars (only my second ? time watching as a kid) and YouTube doesn't help since her Oscar night performance has never been online to my knowledge though I did discover some time-capsule La Times items about that moment and this oddity from...

Stanley Kubrick's List of Top Ten Films of All-Time Up To 1963
Any time a top ten list is made nowadays it is typically made by movie bloggers born in the late '70s / early '80s and therefore the span of time it covers is frequently limited to just a few years before their birth to modern day. As a result many great films are forgotten simply because it's damn near impossible to see everything. Thankfully, there are others out there to encourage us to see films before our time and expand our cinematic knowledge. Just yesterday I posted Spike Lee's list of 87 Essential Films (see that here) and I've always pointed out and referenced Roger Ebert's list of Great Movies, which you can see in its entirety right here. If you haven't seen these films, add them to a spreadsheet of your own and get to work as today I have ten more for you to consider. Born...

I spent a good chunk of my weekend getting into the new Netflix show Orange Is the New Black, which follows the story of a woman from a privileged background who ends up in a federal women’s prison for trafficking drug money. On the extreme other hand, Saturday night I went to see Chicago, the 1975 Kander and Ebb musical, which plays for a handful of performances this weekend at the Hollywood Bowl. The show follows two...

Cast of Last Musical to Win Best Picture Academy Award to Be Reunited at 85th Academy Awards Ceremony
Zellweger, Gere, Zeta-Jones, and Latifah: ten years later, Chicago cast to be reunited at the 85th Academy Awards ceremony Catherine Zeta-Jones, Queen Latifah, Renée Zellweger, and Richard Gere, who starred in director Rob Marshall's 2003 Best Picture Oscar winner Chicago, will join forces once again -- but as presenters at the 85th Academy Awards ceremony next February 24. Show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced the latest additions earlier today. (Pictured above: Zellweger, Gere doing a dance number in Chicago.) Remember that the 2013 ceremony is supposed to revolve around a Hollywood Musical theme, and that a decade ago Chicago became the last musical to win the Academy's Best Picture accolade. And here's a curious coincidence: It has also been a whole decade since a Directors Guild of America Award winner failed to also win the Academy Award in the Best Director category -- something that is bound to take...

The singer-actress – one third of Destiny's Child alongside Beyonce and Kelly Rowland – said that in the past few months she has emerged from years of suffering from moderate depression. Her dark cloud lifted thanks to exercise, therapy and positive thinking.

"I've dealt with depression," the 32-year-old said during a break in rehearsals for a new touring production of "Fela!" that kicks off later this month. "I had to choose to get out of bed and do whatever I needed to do to be happy."

Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol: The Search for a Superstar (2002)
Former 'Idol' Judge To Have Child
Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol: The Search for a Superstar (2002)
Another "American Idol" offspring is on the way, as former judge Kara DioGuardi confirmed to People magazine on Wednesday that she'll finally have a little one of her own.

DioGuardi and husband Mike McCuddy will have a baby via gestational surrogate, meaning the child's genetics will be made up of both DioGuardi's egg and McCuddy's sperm. The couple has struggled with fertility issues since their marriage in 2009. They endured multiple failed in vitro fertilization attempts and have since explored alternative ways to have a child.

Their efforts will pay off in the weeks to come, when their son Greyson James Carroll McCuddy is born.

"We made a personal decision to try with a surrogate," DioGuardi told People. "I asked someone we knew, a friend. And on the first try, it worked.”

DioGuardi called her surrogate a "gem," saying she has given her and McCuddy "this incredible gift."

After hosting Seasons 8 and 9 of "American Idol,...

Nick Jonas And Christie Brinkley Honoured At Broadway Beacon Awards
Nick Jonas
Nick Jonas and Christie Brinkley cemented their status as stage stars after picking up the top honours at New York's Broadway Beacon Awards on Monday.

Teen idol Jonas was recognised for his recent stint in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, in which he played the lead role of J. Pierrepont Finch before the show closed last month.

Brinkley was the lady of the hour - the former supermodel was honoured for her portrayal of Roxie Hart in hit musical Chicago.

Michael Presser, executive director of Inside Broadway, which hosted the event, says, "Inside Broadway's aim is to pass down the rich legacy of musical theatre to future generations so that the magic, music and universal themes of the genre are not lost but rediscovered... Our honourees this year have each without a doubt greatly contributed to that cause."

The ceremony, held at the Big Apple's Hudson Theatre, featured a performance from Million Dollar Quartet star Elizabeth Stanley.
