When Beth flips through photos on Owen's phone, one of the first photos shown is of two men laughing. The photo is of the film's screenwriters, Luke Piotrowski and Ben Collins, who met in high school in Georgia and began writing together in college.
A caerdroia is a Welsh turf maze, usually in the sevenfold Cretan labyrinth design. They were created by shepherds on hilltops and were apparently the setting for ritual dances, the nature of which has been lost.

This likely comes from Dead Poet's Society (1989), in which a motivated teacher, Mr. Keating (Robin Williams), has his students literally stand on their desks, among other things, to try and change their lives.
