Barun Rai and the House on the Cliff

Barun Rai is an individual that can see things others cannot. When law enforcement come across unsolvable cases, they consult Rai who chooses to investigate from a paranormal perspective. He is called to help with a case that includes several unusual suicides within a small seaside village.

Let's start with the obvious lack of quality. It's low budget and lacks the polished look of better funded films. The setting isn't too bad. It takes place in the 70's and the seaside cliff is naturally beautiful. The acting is not performed by seasoned actors so there's a bit of cringe going on.

In the opening sequence, I believed that the special effects might be somewhat interesting but once they started with the CGI and sound effects it took a huge nose dive. They are just not well done. The story and character development is cliché, predictable and weak and the progression is S-L-O-W. So slow that I actually had to speed up the playback to keep from getting bored.

This just didn't do anything for me and I'll never watch it again.

Someone must be using a bot for all of those 10/10 reviews. Is this filmed ala Bollywood? Or is someone a fan of the old Hammer House of Horror movies from the 70s? I Don't know, but they've created a bit of a mess. The acting is hammy, the use of studio dubbing for the dialogue is stupid, cuts from scene to scene, particularly in the first half, without rhyme or reason. A real throwback to the Hammer movies......but, and this may seem an odd question....... WHY???

If you have a ghost story to tell then tell it. No need for the rest of this nonsense. As for the hint at the end titles that a follow up is on the way....for the love of God - NO, thank you.

One simple reason not to watch this movie despite high rating: someone may spell "awesome" as "ossum". Some other people may follow suit. But if everyone who is giving a high rating is spelling it the exact same wrong way, it tells you that something is fishy.

I don't usually review on IMDb, but for this I had to, having seen the multiple 10 star user reviews outnumbering all the others on here.

It's obvious that the makers have put a lot of effort into this (mostly in post-production), but the film is a bit of a mess. The titular character doesn't feature all that much to warrant the title, and his gift (demonstrated at the beginning of the film) is conveniently ignored, which otherwise would make a 10 minute film.

There are some good ideas here, but they're not very well executed. The suspense and fear is missing, partly to do with the acting & direction, but more to do with the voice-work. Some character's voices sound like they have been dubbed entirely, so I spent a lot of the film disengaged because it was so jarring. Some characters, no matter where they were, seem to have the same vocal echo; be it a police station, beach head, cottage, etc.

Maybe in years to come I will be proven wrong and this will be a cult film - the silliness was intentional - but for now, a 10 star film it is not.

I don't know what these people are thinking. I usually watch the movies after checking rating on IMDb. But this 8 star rated movie is a complete disappointment. This is full of illogical scenes, pathetic acting and VFX/editing. General, old, poor and boring story also...
