Lionsgate Moves Colin Farrell Sci-Fi ‘Voyagers,’ Hilary Swank Thriller ‘Fatale’ to 2021
Hilary Swank
Lionsgate has pushed back the theatrical releases of two of its fall movies to 2021, the Hilary Swank thriller “Fatale” directed by Deon Taylor, and Neil Burger’s sci-fi “Voyagers” starring Colin Farrell, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.

“Fatale” was meant to open Oct. 30 but is now expected to open in the first quarter of 2021. “Voyagers” was slated for Nov. 25 but has been pushed back to a date to be announced in 2021.

The fall film slate of theatrical releases has thinned out as the pandemic continues, with “No Time To Die” being the first to move out of its November release into 2021, only to be followed by Pixar’s “Soul” moving to Disney+ on Christmas Day.

What’s more, Cineworld announced it would be temporarily closing theaters — over 600 locations — in both the U.S. and the U.K. in response to the lack of Hollywood product and Covid-19 restrictions.

“Voyagers...

Recasting The Characters Of The Saw Franchise (If It Was Made Today)
Saw (2004)
One of the most popular and longest-running modern horror franchises is the Saw series. Starting back in 2004, these films kicked off a subgenre of gory, torture-filled films like Hostel. However, the Saw franchise outlasted all the imitators thanks to a strong fan following of its intricate storyline across eight films.

While there is a reboot to the series coming with Spiral, it is an intriguing exercise to think about how the franchise would have looked if it were made today. Taking a look at the most significant characters across the entire franchise, these actors seem to be good fits if the Saw series were cast anew.

Interview: Tobin Bell Discusses Working with Lin Shaye for The Call
Image
As John Kramer, aka Jigsaw, in the Saw movies, Tobin Bell forces people to face their sins through elaborate traps, and he gives a group of teenagers the same opportunity in The Call, only this time he's doing it at the behest of his late wife, Edith (Lin Shaye), who isn't quite resting in peace after a heartbreaking accident. With The Call now playing at drive-ins via Cinedigm, we caught up with Bell to talk about working with Shaye for the first time on The Call, and he also shared his excitement for the upcoming Spiral: From the Book of Saw.

How did the opportunity to play Edward come about? Did they come to you with the script? Did they kind of write it with you in mind?

Tobin Bell: Nobody ever said that to me. And I think it's probably unlikely that they wrote it with me in mind,...

Spiral Director Explains the Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson Relationship to Jigsaw in Book of Saw [Exclusive]
Image
Darren Lynn Bousman often exorcises his demons via his movies. The Saw II, III, and IV director explored his fascination with the power of belief in films like The Devil's Carnival and this month's horror thriller Death of Me, in theaters, On Demand and Digital October 2nd. And while the forthcoming Spiral: From the Book of Saw doesn't add anything supernatural, the material is still close to the filmmaker's heart. As he explained in a recent interview, the franchise as a whole deals with belief. And the characters played by Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson in the ninth Saw-related film hold a special meaning for him, too.

The Kansas-born writer/director burst onto the horror scene with a well-received screenplay the Saw producers felt would work as a sequel to the original surprise hit. Saw II did so well, they recruited Bousman to direct the third and fourth...

Spiral Director Says The Movie Brings A Fresh New Dimension To Saw Franchise
There have been many words used to describe the Saw franchise over the years, but ‘funny’ has definitely never been one of them. The horror series became famous for the elaborate and gruesome traps concocted by evil mastermind Jigsaw over eight installments between 2004 and 2017, but like almost every other brand in the genre that churns out so many sequels, the law of diminishing returns inevitably set in.

Before it was delayed for an entire year as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, ninth entry Spiral was shaping up to be the most exciting Saw movie yet, simply due to the talent involved. Having Chris Rock play the lead role, executive produce and develop the story for the latest chapter instantly increased the curiosity factor, which then doubled when it was announced that Samuel L. Jackson had also joined the cast.

Image
Director Darren Lynn Bousman is back with a new movie, Death of Me. Bousman is known best for his work on the Saw franchise, having directed three previous entries in the horror series, as well as the upcoming Spiral, which stars Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson. But the movie was pushed to next year. Even so, Bousman has a new, original thriller coming our way just in time for Halloween. He's been keeping busy.

Death of Me sees a couple, played by Maggie Q and Luke Hemsworth, who are vacationing on an island off the coast of Thailand. They wake up hungover and with no memory of the previous night. They find footage on Neil's camera, and watch, horrified, as Neil appears to murder Christine. With twenty-four hours until the next ferry and a typhoon threatening the island, Christine and Neil attempt to reconstruct the night's events.
