Avis à la une
City of Demons was very good! With that said, the horror story theme really made the movie extremely interesting, along with great story telling. DC and WB did a great job with this movie and the character of Constantine! We are all are begging for more!
I am not particularly familiar with the Constantine character, as I never got into the comic books. But as I happened to stumble upon this 2018 animated movie, of course I opted to sit down and watch it.
Writer J. M. DeMatteis actually put together a rather good and interesting script and storyline for director Doug Murphy to bring to the screen. I have to admit that I was genuinely entertained throughout the course of the 90 minutes that the movie ran for. It was a dark and violent storyline, so this is hardly suitable for a younger audience.
With "Constantine: City of Demons" being an animated movie, of course having a good voice acting cast ensemble is important. And they definitely had that here. I didn't recognize any of the voices initially, but it was nice to see the names of Kevin Michael Richardson and Robin Atkin Downes on the cast list, as I perused IMDb to check who voiced the various characters.
Visually then I will say that the art style used in "Constantine: City of Demons" was good. It was a very fitting drawing and art style used for the animated movie, and it complimented the atmosphere of the dark storyline quite nicely. Plus, the animation itself was also quite good.
Without being very familiar with the John Constantine character, I will admit that "Constantine: City of Demons" proved to be an entertaining watch nonetheless.
My rating of "Constantine: City of Demons" lands on a seven out of ten stars.

It's really one the best outing for Constantine ! Superb animation a bit over the top gore but really like how his character is shaping up. And it looks promising too, he shaping up to be an important character in the larger scheme of things. Looking forward for more movies on him and would like Zatanna with him too and her own movie of course.
That's a mini review about the movie, not the tv show (even if the show is part of the movie). I watched the film yesterday which contained the first 5 episodes of the animated show and took them further into a full, completed story.
I don't blame people who didn't like the show since the episodes were ridiculously short (only 5 minutes each) but the film is a different story. Matt Ryan shines once again as Constantine with good support from the rest of the cast. The story is probably the darkest story I've seen in an animated film and there are many shocking scenes and surprises. As I mentioned in the title, this is undoubtedly the best adaption of John Constantine. The character is actually a damaged character, haunted from his past, trying to find some purpose in life (at least that's how the original Hellblazer presented him to us) and the film captures that perfectly.
I liked the live action series, I loved the Justice League Dark film but City of Demons goes even deeper and gives us the darkest and more mature animated film/series in the DC Universe. Highly recommended.

I have said this already in one of my other reviews but i'll gladly say it again... John Constantine is such a well-made character in all aspects, even his damn british accent fits so well. What this guy lacks in power, he more than makes up for in brains.
Anyways, enough about the character, let's get into the movie. "Constantine: City of Demons" evolves around John Constantine and his best friend Chas who are on a mission to save Chas's daughter, Trish from a demon. They run into lots of trouble underway. It's a fun premise and executed brilliantly. I loved especially the goryness of it all, especially the hell scene, that was creepy in its own right. Definitely recommended.

- AnecdotesWhen Chas and John are in the car being chased by demon dogs, Chas asks John if he can "magic them away". John answers: "Who the hell do you think I am? Benedict bloody Cumberbatch?" No doubt a reference to Cumberbatch's character Stephen Strange in the Marvel movie Doctor Strange. Strange is an accomplished sorcerer.
