I expected a balanced documentary - maybe something similar to 'Once upon a Time in Iraq' - but instead we are given something so bad, it's almost unwatchable. With its soap opera-style presentation, not only is this documentary completely one-sided, but it is also factually incorrect. Blaming Syria for the emergence of Al-Qaeda in Iraq and ISIS without attributing any blame for U. S/U. K foreign policy and their failing to act on intelligence as to the whereabouts of Zarqawi's training camps, is just laughable. Also, every person interviewed is someone who clearly had an agenda against Assad, and the attempted character assassination of Asma Al-Assad is not only completely sexist, but downright embarrassing.
If you are looking for an educational and well-balanced documentary regarding the roots of the political situation in Syria and rule of the Assad family, look elsewhere. And, if you know anything about Middle-Eastern politics/history, this documentary will be a complete insult to your intelligence.

I watch the news of what is happening in the Middle East and despair.
It was beyond my comprehension until I watched this three part series.
The House of Assad documentary tells the story of the family. Mother, father, three sons and a daughter. We learn how an introverted London trained doctor, Bashar Assad, came to power in Syria and became a mass murderer and monster.
The story has elements of Hamlet, King Lear and Macbeth. Now we need this documentary to be made into a 3 act play. A challenge that the Royal Shakespeare Company or National Theatre could do justice to.

Very biased, Syrian School and hypernormalization both were far more balanced. Expected better from bbc. More facts less judgmental.
Concerning lebanon, producers ignored the actual people who faced the Syrians for decade in lebanon. It was shown that hariri and junblatt were syrians opponents, were in reality throughout the syrian existence in lebanon both of them were part of the governing body conspiring against the lebanese and their interests. Hariri and junblatt were assad s puppets, and went western powers wanted syrians out, they both decided, with others, to join maronite freedom fighters.
The BBC production seems to focus on polishing the image of the family and the wife, omitting significant facts to portray Asma in a positive light.
It downplays her central role und her family in Syria's economic corruption and avoids mentioning the family's involvement in fostering extremist groups and ISIS in Syria. Additionally, some information presented appears to be inaccurate und filtered.
It is sad that despite everything that has happened, the Situation is portrayed in such a poor way, avoiding showing the truth as it is.
Given it's a BBC production, expectations should remain measured.
