Don't, just don't

Props to them for making a "movie" and getting it out there. But just because you can make "movie" doesn't mean you should! It was 61 minutes too long.

Campy fun with great Performances

Ouija Mummy Directed by Sébastien Godin, from a screenplay co-written with Dustin Hubbard, the C Word Production-Melting Man Films production.

Ouija Mummy opens up, with in my opinion one of M. Catherine Wynkoop's finest performances. She plays Cassandra Alexander and archeologist who just came home from Egypt. After a successful dig uncovering and ancient necklace. Once belonging to Ahhotep I (voiced by Cayt Feinics). She is possessed by the spirit of Anubis (Eight the Chosen One) and hypnotized into taking a bottle of sleeping pills from the voices whispering to her.

A young couple now move Into her house and the fun begins. Chase and Natalie Logan ( Kii Hornick and Briana Wyman). The exchanges between these very skilled actors is a delight to watch. As they deliver there lines you get drawn into what's unfolding. Kii is a free going nice down to earth type of guys that translates well with his performance. He is the guy you would want to hang with for a good time.

Most of the time before the action starts is spent with Chase and his scene stealing brother Paul (Sebastien Godin). Not to be downplayed is the equally important girl talk between Natalie and her good friend Becca (Sharla Darcus Moore). The Director builds his story around these characters and gives us a treat. A horror movie were the characters are developed and give great performances to hold your attention. Paired with some of the best cinematography it's visually appealing. Seb unique camera angles and lightning are fun to watch.

After a get together and the Ouija Board is taken out the fun starts and never ends. The possession is unleashed and the terror begins. Demonic transformations and gory Fx are not spared and are on par with movies with much bigger budgets.

Yet with Ouija Mummy they don't hide bad performances or story. They are equally blended together and all shine.

Along with many cameos from the Genre you have Bob Glazier as the mailman, Brett Kelly as Chases Uncle and the always fun to watch Joel D Wynkoop as a whacky delivery man. Joel has the most disgusting greasy bag I have ever seen. That personally disturbed me more than all the chaos unfolding.

Dustin Hubbard is one of the hardest working producers. He once again helps deliver a outstanding movie that stands out and is worth repeat viewings and certainly worth a purchase. You can also see Sebastien Godin growing with every movie he makes. This will sure get people talking. I'm thrilled to see what's next.

Entertaining enough but somewhat rushed genre effort

Moving into a new house together, a newlywed couple discovers their houses' former occupant was an archaeologist who desecrated the tomb of an Egyptian pharaoh and their partying has summoned the spirit of the pharaoh that killed her to possess one of the group and head out on a rampage of revenge against the group.

This was a pretty enjoyable effort. What works great here is the fact that there's a fun and zippy pace on display that keeps this one moving along at a frenetic note that's rather enjoyable. As we're given a quick bit about the couple and them moving into the house as well as the various side stories involved in the party with his estranged brother and her spending time away from her friends, this setup gives the film a great base to later work out the need for the group coming together as well as getting to see the party really quickly. Getting the setup with the couple discovering the necklace and the ensuing party, this quickness is quite enjoyable. That carries over quite nicely into the film's later half where the possession occurs and takes hold in a rather fun and startling sequence. Given that they're playing the game like normal and suddenly the two start to act crazy and turn into demonic beings in the middle of it where they're both suddenly overwhelmed by supernatural forces and begin to transform right in front of everyone. The resulting chases around the house and their various powers are put to use getting the upper-hand on the dwindling group, there's a lot to like with the cheesy gore and action on display which comes off rather nicely to give the film a lot to like. There isn't much to dislike here, which really only stumbles in the overall brevity that transpires in the second half. Since it goes so quickly through the first half and the setup with their friends and getting the party going, the second half seems to go by in such a blur as to actually feel underwhelming and underwritten. Since it takes on plenty of different elements coming together in this section that makes the whole thing really over-the-top and quick to the point of being incomplete at points. Considering the low-budget look and feel that comes across here that accounts for that setup, it's understandable but does hold this back somewhat.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.
