Birds with no Legs

I watched this as part of a Best of British section at the Satisfied Eye International Film Festival and it was one of the most popular films of the night. What, on the surface, is a simple and modest short is elevated by expert direction and cinematography and wonderful performances by the two leads. Beautiful to look at - considering it's mundane location - and with a multi-layered script that leaves you thinking about it long after exiting the cinema, the director artfully allows the film and actors time to breathe, to toy with each other and chew over the sharp, snappy dialogue. It's a film that at once manages to be both unshowy but also visually striking and intellectually challenging and leaves you wanting more. A great advert for British filmmaking.
