The Reluctant Landlord

The premise is good but horribly carried out. Romesh tries to bring his dry style of comedy to this but it really doesn't work. Most characters play daft (suggesting the script writing is lazy) , trying to garner a few cheap laughs but they just come off insulting to the audience's intelligence. There seems to be no chemistry between any of the characters, most of all Romesh and his family. I've watched four episodes and was really tempted during the last to just switch off. Definitely would not recommend

I'm often looking for shorter comedy shows that are different than the US norm, and British humor and locations can be quite interesting. I can like dry humor also, but Romesh comes over as extremely unlikeable, the type of person I would never want to be around, so I don't want to watch them either. Always rude, often insulting and laconic to the point of boredom, with supporting characters portrayed as daft, at best. I watched through 4 episodes to see if the tone or chemistry would improve, but no. Dropped.

I would say this series wasn't the funniest thing I've seen. But it is watchable in my opinion. I feel it is lighthearted, and not over the top. The main character Romesh , is serious but does have a sense of humour. The bar lady, I feel is eye candy but fits into the show well. But I feel the character lemon, steals the show. He can be funny without even trying. I feel this program does need a few more series though. I think it would be a shame to end at this point.

I gave this 3/10. I only rated it so highly cos I fancy Yasmine Akram.

You can't write off a new series after a single episode, I wasn't blown away by it but I enjoyed it as an open minded fan of his stand up comedy. I will give it a fair chance and can see this has potential.
